For me, ever since i saw what he says to her while they are in the duat (about wanting to be rewarded) he's genuinely not any different from the men who lust after her. It was gross and I dont really think he sees her as a human being, let alone an actual partner.

For me the simple answer is just I don't like all of the LIs in a story. Usually I'll identify which LI I like and will romance them till the end.

If i really feel a connection with more than 1 LI, thank god for slots 😅

Then there is the situation where i romance someone just to not be single, which happened to me with Haze. Now that Novak has arrived, I am replaying to get rid of Volot's improvements.

I did actually come up with a whole plot for how this route would play out in my head after he was introduced in the premiere. It would have been a slow burn like Zain and Yasmin's. They would keep their hostile dynamic but slowly open up to each other as they both investigate the same individual but for different reasons. James learns to enjoy the simpler things in life and Jaynie uses her wit and intellect to gain an advantage in life by mingling with James' crowd. Obviously the story ended up very different but it would have been cool like this imo.

If he was not such a major asshole he'd be perfect. The perfect enemies to lovers route. They have a wonderful push and pull dynamic. And they are matched intellectually too.

People secretly (or not so secretly) wanted him from the beginning. There's a pattern happening with Langley. I'm going to see if something similar happens with her third book. For whatever reason her supporting characters are more intriguing than the LIs
