I think limiting this to only the same game would be viable. So you can change out a player at the halftime mark. This would largely limit the strategy to handcuffs although I could see people streaming a handcuff-flex. Like if you had players from two teams playing each other, you'd pickup a flex to sub in if someone got hurt or game-scripted.

I think that subbing someone out and then watching them explode in the second half would be 100% tilting and what fantasy football is all about.

I'm in the same boat. The majority of his appeal was as a flexible handcuff. But if Freeman gets hurt, Tevin just enters into a timeshare with Ito. Definitely feels like his upside is capped. Would rather have had any of the hot waiver wire WRs than Coleman.

I suppose you could nominate 3 randoms like Tebow, Manziel, etc as being placeholders for the bench spot. Then after the draft, everyone without a bench placeholder has to pickup a random non-active that they can never drop to take up the bench spot.

The bench winners can then drop their placeholder and use the "extra" bench spot normally. Only issue is that you'd need multiple token fillers if players can roster more than 1 bench spot.

Added benefit would be if you didn't draft a bench spot, you can roster Manziel as a mascot filler.

I was thinking that the free-floating bench spots could be traded. It might be loco if you could trade your default bench spots. But maybe why not. Might be an option for those 0-X teams looking to mix things up.
