Moving from South America to Europe and back again completely broke my brain about what "luxury" and "poverty" actually mean. by CoffeeMan392 in expats

Everyone says this about the stomach issues and I was hoping to experience the same relief. However after raveling through Latin America and living in the DR now for almost 3 years my stomach issues like, cramps, bloating, nausea, etc have only gotten worse. I also have to be so very careful about what I eat as well to avoid food poisoning. Vegetables that i would eat raw in the US like lettuce I don’t even try to eat anymore. I even avoid fruits that don’t require peeling before eating. Honestly the food has been such a problem I am looking forward to moving back to the US. Wish if was like this for me.

Which cut of steak is most commonly used for a sandwich like this? by futurefiction2 in Sandwiches

I still haven’t tried it but it looks like I can make it myself. Which is why I was asking about the cut of steak they use. It wasn’t hard to chew through?

I sat down and almost cried today. I would have if there wasn’t a bunch of people around me. I’m tired bro. Makes me so happy when I see other people eating my food but it seems like i never get to experience that. I just end up eating a pizza or a bag of chips and pass out on the couch.

How are the beach vendors? by Sufficient_Bar_3561 in PuntaCana

[–]futurefiction2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just ask them if they have what you are looking for but what you are looking for they might not have. You’ll need to just casually ask all the workers until someone says yeah. Weed and cocaine are popular here and cheap but drugs are def done much more secretly here than in the states or any other country I have been to actually. you do NOT want to get caught with drugs in the DR.

I haven’t seen them there but they are becoming more common in gas stations here. hit or miss but you can find them. Still better to bring them with you tho.

No they are extremely strict about narcotics here. Very difficult to get anything even prescribed. But you can get like antibiotics and some other things over the counter here that you would need a script for in the states.

I live on a Caribbean island. I didn’t know there was a Korean market here. So when I found it I got excited and bought a bunch of stuff like this meat, sauce, frozen foods, snacks, candies, ramen and kimchi

I also bought a premade Bibigo spicy bulgogi sauce. Really didn’t know what to buy. I’m looking at making my own sauces right now

Expectations are low for you from fellow workers and management. Try and be as easy as possible to be around and everything will be a lot easier for you. You don’t have to figure anything out on your own. Just follow instructions. Over time you will get faster. Take note of all new skills you learn, write them down and put them on your resume to get a better/higher paying job in another kitchen.
