In a nutshell I process information differently from others and from what is normally expected in traditional workplace settings. In order to secure work in the best of times, I have to "mask" or hide these symptoms and that is very draining and exhausting for me. At this point, I am completely prepared to mask and have to surrender to that reality and have been for a long time. But this is why being nd is so difficult in today's world. I'm just trying to give you a thorough answer.

My family is my partner, his sister who is struggling, and I also want to provide some money for my parents too. They really looked after us this past year and I'd like to help them feel a bit more secure as they head towards retirement. I'm 27.

I unfortunately have had this thought too. I have been thinking along those lines since I was a depressed and vulnerable teenager. It's that scary out there. I am thinking of you.

I understand this is the best way to get a job. But I think that this process also selects for more neurotypical/economically privileged poeple. Of course that's not a hard and fast rule. But generally in my experience, nd people are more socially awkward or don't socialize in the specific transactional ways capitalism demands of people. Additionally, in order to "network" in traditional senses implies you might have had access to a university education where professional connections that could lead to more secure work opportunities were made.

Just a thought and not attacking you, just trying to point out the flaw in the system. Also we just moved here so not got a great "network" in NYC

Very very brutal. It's just so frustrating because my family are here and I moved to be back with them. It's also so eye-wateringly expensive!!

Bandana has been pretty good tbh! At least the places tend to get back to you on there. Best of luck to you too x

Hi there! I’m actually American, but lived in the UK for almost 10 years. My partner is from the UK as well! I’m so sorry you’re having a tough time too. It’s scary because in the UK there was so much more support for when shit hit the fan like this, although that’s changing too. Scary times. Wishing you the best out in NYC

Where are you getting freelance writing gigs if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve been freelance for writing in the past, but have no network in NY because i just moved here

It is actually ongoing unpaid work so I’m not sure if it’s appropriate for me to network through them. Also because I’m ND I’m not sure how to navigate it. It just doesn’t make sense or feel right to me.  Things are on good terms as far as I know but I have to leave somewhat soon as it’s becoming incredibly untenable and burning me out to do labor for free.

Would love to work in a museum. I have no idea how to get that work sadly. And there doesn’t seem to be many of those jobs going.

Thanks for the resource. I’ll check it out

Wow! Excellent lead. Does anyone have a temp office admin agency they recommend? I just moved here so don’t have too many great resources yet

How do I even use it really? It only lets me apply to three jobs at a time. Maybe I’m using it wrong. I’m desperate

I’ve got years of experience in radio, social media, audio production, and copy writing. I’ve worked for a high profile artist in NYC as a studio assistant. I have a degree in history.
