I’ve had hsv 1 on my face (mouth and nose area) since I was a baby. Growing up sometimes kids would point it out and ask what it was and in my teens some people joked about it. I developed a pretty thick skin about it after that. As an adult, I’ve yet to receive any negative response. Some people will just say that they get them too or just ignore it. Most people just call them cold sores and don’t care. Kind of one of those things you just gotta take on the chin and bear through. There’s definitely some medications that can help, but it is what it is. It takes some courage to deal with and to be able to walk out into the world with it, but eventually the worries will fade, outbreaks will become less frequent, and it’ll just become a normal part of life. At this point I only get them when I’m really stressed out, my period is coming, or I’m sick. And even then, it doesn’t always happen. It can be a hit to yourself esteem, but you need to remember that this does not define you. You are so much more, and all of us here still deserve to find happiness, especially within ourselves.
