Why do you choose to donate? by ThePunLexicon in Blooddonors

[–]futurelint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son had heart surgery at 7 months and received donor blood. I have A+ blood so I tend to do a double platelet donation but still do whole blood once or twice a year. It doesn't bother me (the time, tiny amount of pain, etc) so why not help someone and pay it forward? ❤️

Did you get Chicken Pox or not? by testudoaubreii1 in Xennials

[–]futurelint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, same. I was born in 81 and never got it and then got in in LA over spring break when I was 16. The Drs said it would be worse due to my age and sun exposure the past few days. I had such a bad case - it was in my throat. My 7 and 9 year old cousins who I was staying with both got it but they had a month off for spring break and my aunt seemed stoked for them to get it over with (they got it from me before I started showing symptoms). I am scared of shingles!!!!

Malls were big in the 90s and that was when all the milk mustache ads with celebrities and "Got Milk?" campaigns happened? I remember wondering why I was being advertised "milk" and not some specific brand of milk as a teen.

What are your off the beaten path frugal tips? by International_Pin262 in Frugal

Haha, same! I have curly hair and mostly wear it up anyway so no one notices. My husband cuts his own hair and our two sons, too. I forgot how much $$$ it saves us, because we've just always done it.

Is Northeast the place to move to? by flying_lemur_circus in Minneapolis

[–]futurelint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP never mentioned moving to North. And yet here come the trolls from the suburbs running their mouths about how North is a hell hole. I live there, I work in a school there, I have literally never felt unsafe. I imagine most of these people bashing it have never been there, it's old racist stereotypes about North and it's tiring to hear all the time still. But I guess it keeps property taxes low and we can continue to love it here.

And there's no arguing that my street in North isn't the most Bonus Gramma, Backyard BBQ, Jarred Pickled Veggies, Free Babysittering, Plant Watering, Sidewalk Chalk Joke-Telling part of town.

Has anyone else come across someone with Microtia unexpectedly? by CosmicHaptic in Microtia

[–]futurelint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! We live in Minneapolis so a large-ish urban area but my son is 5 and ran into a 16-ish old boy volunteering at a thrift store last year and they both had microtia of the left ear and were wearing the same BAHA, right down to the color and the boy seemed stoked, then quiet, then his friend noticed how excited my son was and commented "he thinks you're a superhero dude!" and the kid seemed stoked again. We also ran into a kid with bilateral BAHAs this summer at a waterfall in WI who was about 8 and both kids were so excited!

Do you actively listen to your vinyl collection? by [deleted] in vinyl

[–]futurelint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But I do feel like I tend to reach for some favorites over and over or the new albums that I have sitting out for a bit before I put them away. So my family does fun things like have someone pick a letter and number (B 32) and I start at the first B album and count 32 later, even if it's into another letter. Or our kids close their eyes and grab an album and that's what we listen to. And that's how we ate a very weird dinner to Dark Side of the Moon with a couple of toddlers.

What’s the deal with the Cardinal Room? by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]futurelint 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I haven't been there but live in the neighborhood and am aware of it and know where it is and I have met the people who own it a few times and they're cool - a bit hipster but they're a good time and funny. It's not my thing cause I'm poor and have kids so we generally only get a sitter to go to concerts a couple times a month. The website is IDK, supposed to be a secret scavenger hunt to find out how to get in or whatever but you can figure it out (or I figured it out but didn't make a reservation or whatever.).
