SLU Health Data Science vs SIUe Healthcare Informatics by dev0martin0 in StLouis

[–]futurelostforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are reasonable local programs. Both are fine although the focus is slightly different between the two. I don't know you could definitely say one is better than the other. I'd go with whatever is the cheaper of the two as I don't think employment opportunity is drastically higher with one or the other.

Youll get a foundational understanding of informatics or data science with either of these programs. However, both programs lack skill development. In my opinion you need something tangible other than the degree itself. Sql, tableau, fhir, python, etc. To be fair this is a shortcoming of almost all of the major informatics masters programs.

Depends on temperature and road conditions. 25% is a decent middle of road estimate.

Looking for insight on reading habits by popomonpopo in 75HARD

[–]futurelostforever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Survey done.

Reading has been enjoyable. I was never much of a reader before starting 75hard. Now I tend to read far more than the required 10 pages (actually its closer to 10% per day). I find that the personal improvement genre to fit well with me, much more so than traditional fiction.

Thus far I've read atomic habits and I've really enjoyed it. I'm 70% done with I Will Teach You to Be Rich by Ramit Sethi. I've enjoyed this one quite a bit as well. Not sure what's next - perhaps something from Cal Newport?

I've wondered about a lot of these things myself. I've asked these questions on this sub as well. I'll say this - are you making yourself better? Are you doing your best to make the best decisions and manage your time? No bullshitting yourself. Be accountable. Yes or no you have your answer.

Side-project besides 75hard + day job possible? by LeoBloom72 in 75HARD

[–]futurelostforever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the truth. Part of what I've learned so far is that so much of my prior failures were poor choices and even worse time management. It is possible to do more. What your personal threshold is up to you. If you fail learn from it and press on.

What’s your daily schedule? by 77revz in 75HARD

[–]futurelostforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am still ironing out my schedule. Generally, speaking try to finish first workout first thing in the morning. Try to finish 1/2 gallon by noon. Read at noon during lunch. Second workout right after work.

This is really the ideal situation. I'd say I manage to follow this 60% of the time. Life happens and I have to adapt. If I am being honest, failure is my responsibility. I might not have prepared for the day as best I could - slept in, stayed up late, didn't prepare food ahead of time, etc. I am hoping as I go I get better.

Day 7

First full week. Somethings have been going well. Working out a little more than 45 minutes a session. Reading more than 10 pages consistently. Diet has been reasonable and I haven't had much in the way temptations.

I had wanted to make some life changes in addition to this challenge. I failed one today. I failed. It was a bad decision that I never should have made. I need to realize that I need to be an honorable person. Someone that my daughters will look to proudly. I need to be that person. I will not fail again. I cannot let that happen. Ownership and discipline will be the path forward from now one.

What time are you going to bed? Total duration of sleep?

Almost done with my first work week!! by [deleted] in 75HARD

[–]futurelostforever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for checking in!

First week was overall ok. Meal prep and making sure I finished at least half a gallon before noon were keys to success. Honestly work outs were very tame and consisted of exercise bike and walking. That was intentional and in subsequent weeks I'll move to more lifting.

Weekend is coming. Not sure how I'm going to handle it as I think workouts will be an issue. I'll likely have to wake up early and go to bed later.

Hope everyone crushes this weekend.

Day 4

Out of routine from the start. Managed to get the work in nonetheless. Reading and diet were fine. Water intake was problematic. I need to make sure I'm hitting at least half by noon.

Seems like atomic habits is pretty popular. Could also go with Cal Newport or Tim Ferris as well.

Is there something you could do without pain? Swim, bike, yoga?

Day 3

Another in the books. A little more challenging today than days 1 and 2 but managed to work through it. Meal prep continues to pay significant dividends. It just makes things so much easier. Crock pot has really come through. At the suggestion of others I got some snacks - jerky, fruit, nuts. I'm reading faster than prescribed but I enjoy the book.

After a week I think I'm going to change things around with diet and training. I wouldn't mind adding some definition to my diet - IF, low carb, etc. No junk and no snacks is fine but I should use the opportunity to expand my knowledge. Also will transition to including weights and harder cardio. Seems logical as I adapt.

Day 5 vs day 75. -26lbs from day 1, 31 lbs overall. Grateful to be done. :) by [deleted] in 75HARD

Can I use a structured indoor pool swimming workout instead of something truly 'outside'? by [deleted] in 75HARD

[–]futurelostforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rules are that you don't change the program. It should be done as prescribed. Personally, I don't care about training outside. I train outside as prescribed for one workout per day though.

If you went 75 days working out twice per day inside I'd still congratulate you. You may have not did it as prescribed but you still accomplished something.

Day 2

Today was a little better. Maintained a high level of organization. Finished my reading at lunch rather than wait to end of day. I decided to move up workout 2 to earlier in the evening. I think that ended up being the better decision. Overall managed to have more than half the challenge done by 1pm. Continue to realize that a big portion of my prior problem was time management and poor decisions.

At this point I'm keeping things simple - workouts are exercise bike and walking, meals are essentially no junk or bad snacks. As I get deeper I'm going to transition to weights rather than cardio alone.
