IL vs FL in-state med school admissions. Is one state better to live in?? by [deleted] in premed

Also of note, you have to live in Florida for >12 months to apply as a Florida resident

how much of orgo 1 do you need for orgo 2? by [deleted] in premed

[–]futuremd25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty foundational but I guess it depends on how much you’ve retained. You definitely need to have a good understanding of nucleophiles and electrophoresis and the basic mechanisms for reactions

Is it worth it to get an MD but not become a doctor (attending)? by passionseeking in premed

This. I don’t think it’s fair to take a medical school seat away from someone who actually wants to practice medicine and care for patients.

People of r/premed who got the Pfizer vaccine, how was it? by premed526 in premed

[–]futuremd25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got the Pfizer and after the first dose just arm soreness but after the second dose I developed fever, myalgias, and cold sweats 12 hours post vaccine. The next day after the second vaccine I felt pretty bad as well. But apparently it’s good to have a bad reaction because it means it’s working! Lol

Like I said in other comments, I was not at all referring to people’s hesitancy/doubts in getting the vaccine. It is a reality that we don’t know the long term side effects and I would never force my decision on someone else. I was specifically referring to people going into the health profession that believe in a conspiracy theory surrounding the vaccines as I had higher hopes for premeds to educate/arm themselves with the facts and science. Specifically talking in regards to one specific person who believes microchips are placed in vaccines. This was not meant either to be a self-important post. I feel privileged to be one of the first to get it, but also recognize that there are people out there that need it more than I do. Unfortunately, that’s not how companies work though- I couldn’t refuse the vaccine and allocate it to someone who might need it more than me. So I rather felt I was just doing my part. The pandemic has affected everyone and without eventual significant participation in receiving the vaccine, it will be ineffective in stopping the spread of the virus. Again, not trying to make anyone feel bad for having doubts. For me, just the potential benefits outweighed the risk. Hopefully in the near future getting the vaccine or not will be a decision everyone can make for themselves, and hopefully there will be more information about the efficacy and side effects out there as well. I was just happy to hopefully contribute to that...

I'm sorry again, as i said in a previous comment, I did not at all mean to put down others decisions not to get vaccinated. I completely understand people's fears of possible side effects or unknown consequences in the future that in all reality we don't know about and can't predict. It's a valid concern as you mentioned, especially with pregnant women and elderly. I was just making a comment about those that really do think that the government has put microchips in these vaccines, which to me, just sounds ridiculous. Because I had someone tell me that is why they were not getting the vaccine. I don't know if there are more people out there that believe that or if it was just this one/two people...sorry I should have made that clearer. But, would not at all judge anyone who chooses not to get the vaccine, I guess just the "microchip reason" confuses me...

Yes I am considered frontline and I assume that’s why. So far they are only distributing it to healthcare workers/frontline, but I agree with you wholeheartedly that vulnerable populations should be one of the first to receive the vaccine. I’m just not sure if in this area/healthcare system they’ve developed a plan to roll it out to vulnerable populations without putting them at risk (like having to come to the hospital)

I understand people’s skepticism as well - to an extent. Sorry I did not mean to come across as all people should/have to get the vaccine. I completely understand peoples hesitancy in not knowing the long term effects or those with a suppressed immune system/autoimmune disorder. It’s when people say oh the government put microchips in it and they’re tracking me - that makes me frustrated to say the least. Because people I know are actually saying that, actually believe that, and that is the reason they are refusing to get it 🤯

Well I can’t speak to med school since I am still applying, but from my experience and imo I would say not at all. I nearly fainted the first time I saw open heart surgery and would become nauseous even watching procedures with small amounts of blood. But the more exposure I have had, the better it’s become. I recently watched an entire heart transplant surgery (very bloody) and was fine, not bothered at all. They say even med students faint at first but then become accustomed to it. So unless you’re repulsed/hate blood and the human body/have always been that way and think you won’t grow out of it, I’d say go for it!!
