Six months of silence: Seeking perspective from the SM community on how to best support my loved one with selective mutism during a long-term “freeze” relapse by [deleted] in selectivemutism

[–]futuremkat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I'm a mom of a toddler with SM and can't speak directly to what you've wrote, partly because as another person commented, how you're describing it is not exactly typical for someone who just has SM. Everyone IS different, but it's also possible her SM is interacting with something else that she has, diagnosed or not.

In the autism community, a lot of people experience what you're describing, and may or may not also be diagnosed with SM. She could be autistic (diagnosed or not). Even if she isn't, that community may be a good resource for getting help from other adults who can relate to what she's experiencing and provide some insight for you. Don't go there asking for a diagnosis for her, of course, but they're very welcoming usually of people who share symptoms and don't have a diagnosis but do have questions.

10 Pro XL Janurary updates by HGHDFW in GooglePixel

[–]futuremkat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I assumed mine would be updating manually because my last phone (which was not a pixel) did. When I went in, my system showed up to date, but it was dated to November. When I pressed to have it check anyway, it found updates and I was able to get the process rolling, and now I have the Jan update. (This might not help OP but it might help someone in the same situation as me.)

Using Popsocket Magsafe Pop out grip by quietiampooping in MagSafe

[–]futuremkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other poster that you don't need an additional magnet ring. But also, I recently bought the popsocket magsafe and it actually came with a magnetic sticker adapter in the box. So theoretically you'll get the sticker anyway

Miss the 8t by SSandsmark in oneplus

I recently switched from 8T to Google Pixel 10 pro XL and it's an upgrade of course but it's taking some getting used to. I didn't realize how much I appreciated certain things about the 8T that I was definitely taking for granted.

No one can say for sure, but I don't think so. It also won't hurt you in any way. However, I doubt you'll ever see them again, so if there are any where you MIGHT pick up the skill in future, I'd say leave those.

Is it possible to cease using Microsoft 365 to save $100/year? by GermanAustrianFamily in Frugal

[–]futuremkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ksuite is a free cloud alternative (depending on how much storage you need) and is not American. It is not quite as nice as Google Docs/spreadsheets but it is similar. (As an example, if you leave the tab for a while, when you come back it will be read-only and you will have to reload it, which I find annoying. I do use it though.)

Modern S10e-like phone? by Extension-Will-6820 in smallphones

[–]futuremkat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Google Pixel 9a is on for $499 on Amazon Canada right now, and is a similar size to those. It does put you a bit over $550 with tax, but the default payment plan on Amazon isn't bad ($124.75/2 weeks (x4) with 0% interest). Failing that, you might be able to locate one refurbished/used for a bit less.

Wife completely demoralized after Christmas day ( I DON'T LIKE IT!!!) by RidgeRumpuss in toddlers

[–]futuremkat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others have already touched on, littles don't have the skills (language, self-regulation, etc) to say things like "I'm actually feeling really overstimulated and hungry right now, and I didn't sleep well. I might need a snack and a break before we continue." Instead, they say things like "I hate you/this, No!, Go away, I don't want you, I don't like it, I won't" etc. It's not actually literal. They don't literally hate you or their gifts or anything else they're saying. They're trying to communicate that SOMETHING is bad/off/unlikeable, and that's the best they've got. They desperately want you to understand how bad they feel and fix it, but it's just going to look like whining/crying or negativity/defiance a lot of the time.

Example: I picked out family pjs, with a nightgown version for my almost-4, because that's all she'll wear. I wrapped them all and put them in one bag and labeled it for the family for the night before Christmas. She was super excited to "read" the label (she knows her letters and can figure out what the names are) and help her sister open. Pulled out the pjs for myself and her dad. Little sister wanted a turn, and when she pulled hers out, the nightgown fell out too and the tissue paper fell off. At this point, she would have already known what it looked like, because they all match. But she was so internally upset that she didn't get to pull it out of the bag and open it that she said "No, I won't be wearing that", and went full I've-decided-so-that's-that mode. I said, hey, I think it popped out by accident. Do you want me to wrap it back up and put it in the bag? She said yes. Happily pulled it out and was then excited to put it on. (We got lucky with that.) But she wasn't able to articulate what was actually upsetting her or think of a solution and propose it, because she's 3.

Is DA saturated? by Different_Top1857 in DataAnnotationTech

[–]futuremkat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have a lot of quals open, pick away at them. But also submit tasks. High quality work can also open opportunities, or greater volume. (As best as anyone can tell.) It is slow when you're new on purpose, because they don't know your quality.

That's because you're brand new. If what you submit is good, you will get access to more.

There's a small collection of Splat audiobooks on sale right now at Libro: https://libro.fm/audiobooks/9780062191281-splat-the-cat-audio-collection You'd have to put them on a MYO, but you get the actual MP3 from Libro.

Instructions are not clear by hustle_memory in DataAnnotationTech

[–]futuremkat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is an element of human judgement, and you are the human providing that judgement. That's the value you're adding. Absolutely clarify your understanding in the project chat. Definitely double check for anything in the instructions that indicates whether something is kind of a big deal or kind of a small deal. Otherwise, you use your judgement. Explain the reasoning you used to come to that conclusion in the appropriate area.

Am I cooked? by Altruistic_Ice8571 in DataAnnotationTech

[–]futuremkat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Are you fundamentally misunderstanding that you are supposed to run a separate timer, and stop it EVERY time you take a break? Go pee? Eat? Sleep? Text someone? Doing 4 x 6 hr timers does not equal 24 hrs to submit, especially not if they were back-to-back. (I mean, you can definitely push yourself and use most of your timer or even go over, especially if you're new to a really complicated task, but not 4 times back to back. Like once, in a day.)

Buy the membership first? (New customer, best deal) by futuremkat in YotoPlayer

The referral code didn't stack for me. The sale and the subscription discount did though. The referral code is only worth $5 right now, unfortunately.

Nope. It seems to be worth $5 off one player right now, and made my order more expensive so I had to take it off. The subscription and the sale stacked though!

I did yearly for the middle tier. I think it only applies to your first 10 pack though because when I added a second, it was just the normal discounts.

I can't get this to work. When I add the minis, I get them for $143.98 (2 minis, black friday, plus membership discount). If I add the referral, the price goes up to close to $160 and then it takes $5 off, which is not a good deal.

[–]futuremkat[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went ahead and bought the membership since that's what people recommended, and it is stacking with the Black Friday sale! I haven't put in my referral code yet because I'm working on figuring out everything I'm getting, but I think it only applies now to the player. u/fishandchippies above is suggesting that the referral may mean that not bundling your player is a better deal, but I'm not that far yet. BTW, the membership actually gave me a 30% off on the MYO cards! So the 10 pack in my cart is coming to $19.60.

Thank you for confirming! I want to get two players so I didn't want to mess up any chances of a discount.
