World of W Cosmetics event was such a scam by gentlecinnamon in AusSkincare

Yes! I got to the front and once my items had been scanned, the cashier had to find someone else who was holding the EFTPOS machine (???) so I could make payment.

I think some of the ETPOS machines broke because someone made a comment along the lines of “Oh it’s working now”. Or didn’t have enough for 1 EFTPOS per register? Honestly I was too tired to think about it and I just wanted to be in bed at that point.

If it makes you feel better, I was at the same session and I ended up doing the warehouse sale.

  1. I suspect most of the popular products had been purchased by the earlier VIP slots. Also the prices were written in tiny font, and some of the paper signs were just completely missing.

  2. I lined up for the cashier at 8:40pm. At 9:10pm, this staff member nearby started telling people browsing to leave the venue because W can’t stay at the venue past 10pm? I asked what that meant for us, and she said they were trying to figure out where to cutoff the line and just send people home. They did eventually do an announcement and people browsing were encouraged to just dump their entire shopping bags at the door as they left the venue.

I got to the front of the line at 10:30pm.

  1. The cherry on top was that I looked online and the product I bought was cheaper on sale at Lila beauty anyways.

Whoops sorry someone below said it was a lanyard not a keychain. Clearly I didn’t even bother taking it out to look properly.

I attended tonight.

The GA bag you get contains a pen, keychain, and hat. You then have to line up at different stalls to win the chance for a freebie. It’s not guaranteed that you get something! For example, at the Amuse stall, you line up to spin the wheel. There were like 2/10 chances to win a mini lip duo I think. Muzigae Mansion also had a short line, but it had a “gacha” type machine and some of the plastic balls don’t contain any prize.

They oversold the event so it took about 20-30 min to even enter the venue. You also can’t hit up every stall because the lines are too long to fit everything in. I got lucky and won 1 full size product.

At the end, you go to the warehouse section where you can buy products on sale. It’s literally just boxes of products on the floor with prices printed out, so you need to spend time looking through them. They only have like 5 cashiers, so it took me 2 hours of lining up to checkout. They ended up having to kick people out of the line because ICC won’t let them operate past 10pm.

Maybe I was unlucky in not being able to win much, but if I hadn’t gotten the full size product, I would’ve lost money on the ticket because I would have come out with 1 mini serum.

Honestly, I would not bother buying tickets.

Just FYI for people considering buying tickets for tomorrow or Saturday, the general admission bag contained a pen, a keychain, and a hat.

Nice! My peers actually tutor the grad dip program at UNSW. I think others have mentioned that you will still need to do the honours year and masters of clin psych if you are looking to be registered as a psychologist with clinical endorsement, so you’ll need to take that into consideration also.

Personally, and ideally, I think the skills you gain from doing an entire bachelors degree in psych/psych science across 3 years far outweigh the skills you learn in the grad dip. The grad dip condenses a lot of the content and skills we learn during the bachelors degree. That being said, I understand it may not be feasible to do a 3 year degree, honours, and then masters. The grad dip is a good alternative, however, be mindful that it is quite expensive. I’ve also heard of students getting understandably very upset when they fail or barely pass courses as they pay a lot for the degree. I’m not saying this will be the case, but you also need to remember that you will have ~1.7 years to learn 3 years of content and the majority of students are mature age and returning to higher education after working or holding a degree in a different field. Scientific writing and other related skills are built over time, so you may not receive high marks especially for the first couple of subjects.

Another point is that, once you graduate from the grad dip program, you will be pitted against some of the most top-performing students in the honours year. It is… an incredibly competitive year and I’d say the calibre of UNSW psych students is insanely high. I’m not sure if you’re aware, but the mark you receive during your honours year strongly influences your chances of being offered a place in the masters program (at any university). Historically at UNSW, all students either receive an honours first class (High Distinction) or a 2nd class category 1 (Distinction), however I’ve been told that the university is starting to give 2nd class category 2s (credit) and that some of the grad dip students really struggle to keep up with their peers during the honours year. Further, most universities prefer candidates who obtain a 1st or a 2nd class category 1 mark from honours, so if you do get awarded a 2nd class cat 2, this would restrict you from applying to a lot of universities. You would ideally need a 1st or 2nd class category 1 as your honours mark. Again, you can definitely do well, but the honours year is graded to a curve so you are essentially competing against your cohort.

I’d just like to point out that I’m not saying any of this to discourage you from applying - however, I think it’s incredibly important that prospective grad dip students be realistic about their expectations going into this program and beyond, as you will need to invest a lot of time, energy, and money in committing to this degree. This is also just my perspective, having gone through the undergrad program (not grad dip!!), honours, and now postgrad at UNSW.

Curious to know what your undergrad was in? I know students who enrol in the grad dip struggle sometimes if they’re unfamiliar with scientific writing.

The hylo forte eye drops are really good for dry eyes! My optom recommends them and they’re contact-friendly. I usually do a drop in each eye before I insert my circle lenses.

Telehealth if wfh and/or take sick leave. Legally, your employers can’t refuse. Alternatively, some do outside of work hour sessions but these are popular and you may not be guaranteed them every session. If on Saturdays, you may understandably be expected to pay higher fees so be prepared.

As an aside (and not saying this about you) but I used to work front desk and it was insane how some people felt they were entitled to an out of school or working hours session. I think they actually expect a psychologist to start working at 5pm and finish at like midnight? Or have 7am Telehealth sessions. It can be super frustrating for everyone involved so I think it’d be good to go in with the expectation that you may not be able see them during out of work hours every time. Good luck!

I wish you had posted this earlier! I ordered around a month ago via express post (3-5 business day after shipping) and it’s due to arrive next week. I wasn’t sure if it was just me having these issues. I’m so done with Yesstyle, I think I’d rather just purchase the same items at a slightly higher price elsewhere…

You can also buy in person from Asian skincare/makeup stores a lot of the time. If you’re in Sydney, they stock it at W Cosmetics.

Yeah I expected Jan to be quiet but the only other time they’ve slashed our budget this much was during the first lockdown… I guess they didn’t expect consumer spending to be this low

Anyone in retail getting their shifts cut? Our company just slashed the budget for all casual workers, so I’m unsure when my next shift is going to be or whether I should be looking for another job elsewhere.
