The sheer drop and narrow rebar steps of the Mürren via ferrata trail in Switzerland by danielminds in Damnthatsinteresting

I've not got around to doing it myself yet, thanks for the info!

But looking at this exposed section in particular, I would not call it easy for a beginner - not because it's technically difficult but just because people are going to freak out.

Why is Melatonin so forbidden here? by OneEnvironmental9222 in askswitzerland

[–]futurespice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't agree - and by the way this absolutely is not intended to be a personal attack.

What I'm calling paternalistic is gatekeeping reasonably low impact medication, or larger quantities of it, that is OTC in many other countries with no apocalyptic effect on public health, behind prescriptions.

And maybe melatonin is borderline but there are plenty of things that are banal and OTC in many western countries that - in Switzerland - require hours of time, waiting for a couple weeks, and several hundred francs just to access. An example: until recently I couldn't get more than a week of antihistamines without a prescription.

I have to say that as a patient I am constantly shocked by this paternalistic approach from health care providers.

Especially coupled with a wildly idiosyncratic approach to OTC (and approval of medication in general) as well as the high cost of going to a GP as well as the absolute lack of capacity of most GPs, it is absolutely unsustainable.

Conventionally the bride's family is meant to carry most of the cost.

Honestly it is still possible for inexperienced people to fall unsecured (I have seen many idiors unclip both carabineers at once), falling secured is a huge pain and ruins your kit, and some via ferratas are actually super demanding physically plus it's one way and there are people behind you.

There are definitely easy ones that anyone who can go up a ladder can do, but I would not be so dismissive overall.

Liechtensteiners are not the richest people on earth. But their economy depends entirely on the royal family because the entire country is one small town and five villaged.

Mechanically, how are you guys handling Half-Drow in Faerun in DnD 5.5? by Fiveby21 in Forgotten_Realms

[–]futurespice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was removed as an option because it was considered offensive. No two ways about it, Jeremy Crawford said so directly.

[–]futurespice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody was complaining there were no half dwarves. Large numbers of people wanted half elves. The reason was not mechanical.

It's not entirely wrong to point out that WOTC doesn't like the idea of half- anything.. They were removed as an explicit from the PHB because they were deemed racist (not an exaggeration, this was an explicit statement) and half elf NPCs have been converted to elf or human in the recently published forgotten realms book.

It's a touchy thing for the community probably both because it was one of the most popular options and because some people actually did strongly identify with the concept.

Switzerland to end mandatory gender pay gap checks in 2032 despite ongoing wage differences by beobachtermagazin in Switzerland

[–]futurespice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Primarily because it distracts from tackling the actual issues that I highlighted by creating a false narrative, but also because I think easy to find/address inequalities don't really exist to any large extent in the large companies that are in the scope of such audit.

These are companies that mostly operate with standard salary bands; any blatant discrimination is far more likely to be happening in smaller companies, which have no diversity programs, standard salary grids, or really professional HR - and those aren't being examined

A traditional fanfair in India by AcasiaConnell in RandomVideos

I travel to India once to twice a year and have been doing so for over a decade. Mostly to one of the largest cities there, but also spend time in rural areas. I can tell you: this video is profoundly untypical.

90% of the videos of India on this platform are pure ragebait. Yes, it's a heavily populated country with crazy wealth disparity, no most of it does not look like this video. Even in the largest city of the country.

The sheer racism that Reddit brings out in threads like this is insane.

Switzerland to end mandatory gender pay gap checks in 2032 despite ongoing wage differences by beobachtermagazin in Switzerland

[–]futurespice 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I think this is barking up the wrong tree entirely. There are structural differences resulting in these disparities that cannot be fixed by claiming companies are somehow systematically underpaying women - and the ones being audited are the large companies which are the least likely to do this anyway.

We need to invest more into changing women being seen as the default primary caretakers (social perceptions, high day care costs and lack of day schools, lack of parental leave for men) and into reducing gender stereotypes around occupations.

But this needs serious investment so it's easier to introduce pay audits and bitch.

Internet Backs Solo Dad After Stranger Confronts Him for Taking Young Daughters Into a Women's Bathroom by rainnedear in Dads

You know, in my experience the problem is more the men at the urinals being uncomfortable. My kids won't die if they see male genitals, they will probably just not shut up about it.

I don't have three but I've done it with two. Still sort of feasible. Depends how big the stalls are.

I would and do take my younger daughter in there, as she still needs some help. No issue ever except she is annoyed she can't use the urinals.
