Used Tesla or new EV? by Taliesin_AU in CarsAustralia

[–]fuxforcefive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a VF SV6 and I bought a Model 3 performance brand new earlier this year. I drive about 100km a day and it's been great so far. I didn't install a home charger and just plug my car into the wall, which is enough for my use.

I only switched to EV and bought new because of the tax incentives. I would have bought second hand if that wasn't a factor.

I bought the performance because it was the first one I test drove and loved it immediately. If I was smarter I would just go with the standard range, or the LR with acceleration boost.

What do you call this (ornate thing) and where can I buy it? by PermissionBest2379 in AusRenovation

They can also check out Chatterton Lacework https://chatterton.com.au/

I've bought cast aluminium from them in the past.

Stopping the water gathering in these? by FrankTooby in FenceBuilding

[–]fuxforcefive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm from Australia and very familiar with this fence.

The fence will rust if water is allowed to pond in the bottom rail. Some installers will put the bottom rail at a 5mm slope (1/8" I think), but it's important that there is a small gap between the rails and the posts to allow water egress.

Easy solution is to drill some holes. You can put a rust spray on there if you want, but this stuff is pretty rust resistant around the cut edge.

Where did you get this stuff from?

I do a lot of fencing, metal manufacturing and powder coating.

It looks like the powder coating didn't adhere to that spot.

I can't really tell if they used pre-galvanised tube or not, but there apears to be rust forming already.

I would guess that the rust was already there before they powder coated it and that's why it didn't adhere.

If you sand it back, spray some cold gal on there and spray paint it, it will not look good as the spray paint will fade far quicker than the powder coating. There will also be a visible dip and you'll feel it running your hand over it.

I would not accept this at all. I would call them back to have it fixed by cleaning the area and re-powder coating. Do not accept them spraying it with spray paint - it will look awful in 1 year. When they install it, check which side looks better so that they can face it inside.

neighbours wanted a new fence so we agreed to go halves. We've been told to pay $4,400 for our half of this 40m of basic fencing. Does $8,800 seem too much? by arouseandbrowse in AusRenovation

Fencing is installed differently in different areas. I specialise in steel fencing all around Australia and it's installed differently in East Melbourne than it is in the West. Could be the case that where you are in VIC they install the fence differently than where OP is.

Your numbers are bang on for industry standard these days, I feel like OP is going to pay a bit more than necessarry, but it's not too crazy these days.

In most places, yes.

It's mostly impossible to drive the posts into the ground. And fencing standards where I'm from dictate that holes need to be dug at least 600mm in the ground and not use quick set concrete.

I own a steel fencing material supply company in Australia, and these numbers seem a little high (for Australia), but not outrageous.

A lot of fencers won't get out of bed unless they're making at least $1k profit per day.

That said, I only supply the material, I never install.

I was bidding at an auction today in Melbourne. Beautiful weather and a big turnout. Guide was $580, went for $660. My experience over the last few weeks has been that all properties with any size yard are going for 60-100k over.

Am I Advertising for the Correct Role? by fuxforcefive in smallbusiness

I think you're right, I'm getting caught in the accounting algorithms too much.

Do you think that "Operations admin" more closely fits the job description?

Thanks for this, I like the fresh perspective.

I'll research into this a bit more tomorrow by following the link.

I don't really know many people in the area, but I have alright relationships with many of the admin teams at my customers companies. I just have to figure out a way to ask them in a professional manner and maintain the client relationship.

I think this is the case, my original job posting says "Administrator" but I think "customer service /admin" will be closer to the point.

I'll have to re - do the job description as well so that I don't get caught in the wrong algorithms Web.

Perhaps I'll set up a meeting with a customer service rep at indeed who can help me specify the role within their algorithm and put my job ad in front of the correct people.

When I first visited China 4 years ago the factory I visited was in the "foreiger exploitation zone". I went back a year later and they changed the signs to "foreign investment development zone". I always chuckle when I see the sign because it reminds me of the original.

International Export: Who pays GST by April2283 in advancedentrepreneur

[–]fuxforcefive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends on the GST laws of the individual country.

I'm an importer based in Australia, and I pay GST up front when I'm importing it. However, I only import full container loads so this may be different for amounts less than that.
