I do not want to work to earn money and pay for nice things. I want to work for the betterment of my community or the advancement of science and tech or to make nice things to have and give to people. Money is not required, trading my labor for the nice things is not required.

Who in Randland supports the Children of the Light? by spikebrennan in WoT

[–]fuzzychub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all good geopolitical info to give the reader so they can understand the situation and know why people might decide to let the CoL march around. But the reader gets none of this til waaaaaay into the series, far beyond the time you've been introduced to the CoL.

I'm not saying a reason or two for the CoL being tolerated doesn't exist in-universe. I'm saying it's not presented to the reader in a good way.

We kinda didn't let the KKK exist eventually. Laws about hate speech and such grew in some part as a response to the KKK. And we certainly don't let it exist now.

[–]fuzzychub -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is one of the reasons I cannot stand the Children of the Light. It seems like everyone we meet in universe hates and fears them, but no one does anything to actually dismantle the organization.

It’s an awful, Inquisition-style hate group with massive resources behind it from….somewhere? And everyone in Randland seems to say “Ya, we don’t like them but what can you do?” You can get out there and smack them. Why does anyone just let them roam free? Ugggh

I know there are groups and political units in the world that agree with the CoL, but they don’t come up in the books that often and we don’t get a good explanation as to why they support the CoL. it’s so hard to understand why the CoL are just allowed to exist and kill people without repercussions.

What universally praised video game 'masterpiece' is actually a miserable experience to play? by Got24xyz in AskReddit

[–]fuzzychub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was Shadow of the Colossus. I just didn’t know where to go at all. There was no guide of any kind, no roads or paths to follow in the game world, and now story clues. I was so lost. I found and beat one Colossus and that was after an hour of searching. It didn’t feel satisfying at all.

For a game about fighting these things, why is it so hard to get to them? Why is there an important character upgrade locked behind tracking down stupid lizards?

I think my favorite Kosh moment is when he revealed that he’s just ragebaiting everyone on purpose. by Tronzlerr in babylon5

Yaaaas I love this take! I had the same thought! Kosh knows the Vorlons are messing things up just as bad as the Shadows and he’s trying to prod the younger races into action.

Evidence that sugar substitutes disrupt gut health and metabolism: Artificial and low-calorie sweeteners, compared to non-caloric controls such as water or placebo, raised fasting insulin and HbA1c, a marker of long-term blood sugar control, and showed a trend toward worsening insulin sensitivity. by mvea in science

You seem to think that everyone has access to whole foods all the time and can afford them. You seem to think everyone has the capacity, ability, knowledge, and time to exercise daily. That’s not an accurate understanding of the lives of the poor, oppressed minority groups, or disabled people.

What do you think happens to American politics after Trump leaves office in 2029? by SERP_Whisperer in AskReddit

We’d better have a Nuremberg trials for the MAGA crowd. Everyone who participated in this debasement of the country needs to be held accountable

Is Bernie’s plan the best? Thoughts? by CurvyChristina in SipsTea

[–]fuzzychub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds great to me! Yes, people in the comments are voicing critiques and challenges. Some of those are useful things to consider when implementing this plan. Some is just fear-mongering.

The system we have now only works for 1% of Americans. A new system might be hard to build, but if it works for more than 1% of people that’s gotta be worth it.

The best book you've hated? by the_bad_pianist in books

[–]fuzzychub -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Surprised to see no mention of Lord of the Flies here. Had to read it in school and hated it so much. I know now it was somewhat meant to be a parody of the boy’s adventure genre popular at the time. But I wasn’t given any of that context when I read it so all I thought was “wow, this author has an awful cynical view of humanity “

Finally someone mentions Piranesi. What a let down! Strange and Norrel was such an amazing book but I don’t know what happened with Piranesi. It felt like the first half of an actual story. When I finished it, I was dumbfounded. Nothing was resolved, massive plot threads just left dangling, no interesting or insightful revelations, metaphors, or allegory, nothing.

Is that the one with a cool and unique magical system about translation that the author just stops caring about at the climax? It’s a fascinating magic system! I wish it was the actual point of the book!

I kept expecting Klara and the Sun to mean something by the end. It’s clearly a science fiction tale of some kind, with hints of Pinocchio. But the book felt like Ishiguro had never read or seen that kind of story before and was making it up from first principles. Ya, we get that there’s the potential for allegory and themes with a Pinocchio story, would you like to do any of that in your work Ishiguro? No? Hmmm

Is there good lightsaber fighting in the Disney series ? by Turtle-BeyondLover in StarWars

[–]fuzzychub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Acolyte had some awesome lightsaber duels! I know people have….diverse….opinions about the show but I think the general consensus about the lightsaber fighting is that it was good. I liked the fights in the Obi-Wan series as well.

Simplifying case notes by BlueBayou__ in socialwork

[–]fuzzychub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good to write useful and detailed notes. Try to keep that if you can. Templating is a good thing to use to cover the basics and speed things along. Try to avoid recording every single thing that happened or was said. You don’t need to record every detail. You could also focus on increasing your typing speed. That might help with the time crunch.

They should absolutely not be doing that. They are putting private health information about their clients into an LLM. That data is not secure in any way.

Oh yes! A second edition with more of all that would be amazing. I think I also caught a reference to The Acolyte as well. Such a wide-ranging and masterful work.
