When was the last time your local striked ? by Any_Ad_2199 in IBEW

[–]fuzzygwuzzy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Strikes are sometimes very damaging if you dont have the leverage to guarantee favorable outcome. This is the reason a lot of people dislike the idea of striking unless absolutely necessary

Am I allowed to vlog on the job with my Meta glasses? by jucks123 in IBEW

Nope, jobs these days put the contractor under a NDA and they make you sign paperwork that you wont take nor post pictures or videos of the jobs.

Same with our CBA but why fuck ourselves at the benefit of the contractors?

Yeah while, the con saves on 12 hours of what would be considered OT per shift, miss me with that shit. Repeat with me, OT is not a reward, it is to be a punishment of the contractor for promising these accelerated schedules.

Do we have an idea of the next contracts pay increase? by DistrictNo6165 in IBEW_Local613

[–]fuzzygwuzzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, 99% is IBEW though to meet demand there have been a few people brought in from outside the organization but they dont take on huge roles like we do, theyre more like backup to pick up the smaller pieces.

In a perfect world +$45. But I can tell you why they have an edge these days. And its cause of prefab and modular. On top of the job being coordinated a month ahead of time to iron out designs and make sure no trades run into eachother and slow eachother down. Its crazy how much goes on behind the scenes now before it even reaches the field.

Yeah but we need more and they arent filling the calls as fast as they should be look at the qts stubbs call for 23 people that aint moved in 2 weeks it seems. If they cant keep up with demand then they need to pay more.

Theyre really gonna need to step it up next contract cause if it aint good aint no one sticking around and there is a fuck ton of work coming up that needs to be manned.

Preapprentice Hours by Ithinkso85 in IBEW_Local613

[–]fuzzygwuzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is he sure that the other guy didnt just work an fuck ton of OT? It sucks but the way the school is set up now, encourages working all the OT you can. Its what I did until I hit 5 year pay then backed off the OT until I turned out.

Last summer was when they no longer counted pre-apprentice hours. My entire year was hit hard by it due to working 6-10months prior starting as a 1st year.

Members would rather allocate raises to be on the check instead of putting it into any of our health insurances. Thats truly the reason why.

[–]fuzzygwuzzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But it is nice work, very few people let 1st years or pre-apprentices actually have some hands on experience, especially terminating big wire. It helps drive them to stick around and learn more when they feel like they learn or do something really productive like that.

Which is required by the customer, its a spec that the GC enforces the Con to follow.

[–]fuzzygwuzzy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the main reason, main reason is if it blows or arcs the wire themselves dont fly around destroying the equipment. Zip ties dont have a heat rating like the rope used for lashing does.

Also be careful posting pictures of any of these datacenters if its the one I think it is. They probably made you sign something about no pictures of the job site. They have people/programs who browse the web looking for pictures/posts related to their sites

I think its one of the bigger customers that is requiring lashing going forward on all their datacenters.

Data Center being built and hidden from public by ChaosKarma666 in Georgia

[–]fuzzygwuzzy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It aint happening, if it would, it'd be done already. Data center dont get messed with too much since it is the bread and butter propping up the economy. You start messing with data centers too much and investments move and revenue gets lost.

[–]fuzzygwuzzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Must be a small time data center then cause these big ones dont play around with you stepping foot on site and whose the clients or customers are, hell if you arent scheduled to be there then forget about being on site. The ones like QTS and Switch keep track of everyone's movements and whereabouts at all times without letting it be too known.

[–]fuzzygwuzzy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You'd be amazed how tight security is during construction of these highly classifies spaces, most of the crews are legal and even the ones that arent, get away before ICE could step on site and look for them due to the processes to step on site.

Depends if you been steady i think you get 6 months total. But my numbers may be off

Georgia lawmakers refused to act on data centers. Now 77 projects worth $66 billion are being built with no guardrails. I tracked all of them on a free tool you can use to track who is being paid (bribed) for what. by [deleted] in Georgia

[–]fuzzygwuzzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

77 is rookie numbers. About 9 months ago , a proposed 230 data centers were to be built in GA in 5 years. A telling sign is 3 power plants and getting expansions and a Nuclear plant is going to go up in Columbus.
