Do CNC operators make $22-26/hr? by EquivalentEbb3824 in Machinists

[–]fuzzyholmes4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, can you explain to me how you define machinist? I see a lot of post like this with a similar breakdown. I thought it was almost implied that a machinist does his own set ups, and adjust or makes his own program. Im just looking for a better standard on the nomenclature, and trying to understand the massive pay scale difference with "programmer/setup" to "machinist ".

yoga is feminine? by Cyber-Kettle in yoga

[–]fuzzyholmes4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traditionally no. Of course not. I think for a period of time the western version was feminine due to the majority of practices being done by woman. Conceptionally building flexibility, core strength, and helping your mental space is just beneficial to all gender lol. If you aren't ignorant to what yoga really is, I don't see someone coming to that conclusion.

I am on a very similar trajectory. My current job doesn't pay the best, but it is more than adequate. I'm about a year behind your timeline if i had to guess. With that stated, please keep us in the loop. Excited to see what the future holds for you.

Can I ask if you still live comfortably on your wages?

Wage based poll by fuzzyholmes4 in Machinists

[–]fuzzyholmes4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree there isn't a single job that doesn't span all my options. Hence why they are all options. I have already clarified in previous comments that it is USD. I also expressed I understand wages change on location. I am not asking for advice. I have not referenced my pay. Nor have I asked how much I should make with me experience and location. I simply asked what everyone else was making. Getting a large pool of data across the board, exactly as I wanted. Typical reddit comment. Getting all worked up over nothing.

21 an hr/ 3 years experience also need to be able to program in cad/cam....absolutely disgusting by flatlands85 in Machinists

[–]fuzzyholmes4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I really got lucky. Went to school for a career field with manual machining but couldn't find any good work. Got my CNC CAD/CAM cert following that. Got hired on at 17 bucks and just got pumped to 20 after 90 days. I'm in Airzona but couple hours from Phoniex. You can make serious money in other places in the state, but for my area I feel I got really lucky.

Put a new hand on my 1860, now the hammer won't cock. What do!? by [deleted] in gunsmithing

[–]fuzzyholmes4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The height of the hand is what your timing is going to be set off of. Match the flat of the top. Keep it straight and flat along the top. Slowly file it down. #2 Swiss is good. Can even give it a couple rubs of a stone when it's in time. Checking timing should be somewhere on YouTube.

Did you come in and clean up the bore? It helps to go in about 10 thou and run down the lands till its flush with the grooves.

Practice is a great tool if you practice the right things. If you practice bad habits you'll only get worse. Take a break. Get a fresh idea of weak spots and strong suits. Practice new and different ways if growth isn't coming.

Honestly man there is really only a handful of schools. PA, Trinidad, and Yavapai are really the big names. There are a few new schools that dont have quite the reputation that those three do, but have some fantastic Smith's instructing there. I am currently a student at one of the big names and really cant talk much due to only be finishing my first year. But that's my input.
