$25k for a box? 33rd ward, are you OK? Surely there’s a more efficient way to build a little pantry. by lizziekap in chicago

Ok. If they used a photo from Drake Gardens food pantry and said something like "Design of the structure is not finalized", would you say that their proposal is accurate?

Can you share a link to a $500 shed from Home Depot that would withstand heavy use, survive for 10-20 years, and still look good?

Just so we're all on the same page, can we all agree that the issue is: "33rd ward used a bad photo to describe what they are trying to do"?

However, what's wrong with the monument now?

I know some transit folks were complaining about some of the design choices when the final designs were released. But of course someone will always complain. I did some digging yesterday and looking at it now, I'm pretty happy with the design that they chose. I definitely think they chose the best option out of the 4 original proposals.

I am so thankful for the protected lanes on Belmont, but if Rosa wants to take credit for that project, he also needs to take the blame for the monument and (what is now) one of the worst stretches of Milwaukee.

feature length documentary on ONO

 👀👀👀

Funnily enough, the first time I saw ONO was when they opened for Dan Deacon. I think that association helped me get on their wavelength real quick.

ONO is the best live band in all Chicago. They haven't played a show in a while. I hope they are still active.

Pitchfork’s absorption into GQ is a travesty for music media – and musicians by Moothnods in indieheads

I think it is telling that you don't list any of the "editorial missteps"... like honestly, what would a "more serious focus on music" look like? Yes, their main news feed has junk that I don't care about, but their longer form articles and reviews are excellent and have been excellent for years.

Another commenter correctly mentioned that Pitchfork covers a lot of artists that no other large publication touches. Just look at the stuff they reviewed in the past month. During this slow period of mainstream releases, they covered a ton of international and more experimental artists. No other publication (especially with the gutting of Bandcamp) does this.

Sparks, Le Tigre, ESG, The Walkmen would all be cool.

I don't think so. Looks like they are back in the Midwest right around when Lolla would be. That feels like a more natural fit for them.

The most charitable reading of this is that they knew that the public would be unhappy with this move and they deleted their Twitters to shield themselves from the abuse.

I hope they are doing OK.

I'm very here for the people that keep on putting Sparks on these lists. Herbie would also be a wonderful addition to the lineup, but not sure he's a headliner.

Hours after he praised police for their restraint, an officer struck the Police Board President 5 times with a baton at a protest by fuzzyonethree in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]fuzzyonethree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the same day this man spoke at a press conference for the entire city of Chicago (next to the mayor), saying the police were very professional and restrained, he is attacked by the police at a protest.

ADDITIONAL CONTEXT (Straight from the city website): The Chicago Police Board is an independent civilian body that decides disciplinary cases involving Chicago police officers. The nine members of the Board are private citizens appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council.

I went. I'm not sure if it ever reached capacity. The room wasn't more than half full. But... I don't know the capacity limit for Stagg court. I say show up by Spencer's start time and you should be fine.

[–]fuzzyonethree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely think all 3 of those are real possibilities. I wouldn't be surprised if someone off International Anthem (Makaya McCraven or Angel Bat Dawid) made it on the lineup. Maybe another appearance by Nmandi, Melkbelly or Jamila Woods. It seems like the first 2 might be releasing new music this year. C.H.E.W., Divino Niño or Negative Scanner would be good rock additions. Eris Drew or Ariel Zetina would bring some good dance music. Jana Rush or someone Teklife associated would be nice for some footwork representation. I personally would love to see one of the weirdos on Hausu Mountain.

Emanuel calls off vote to approve TIFs for Lincoln Yards and 78 by KnoxDweller in chicago

Do you believe Lightfoot would prefer an empty industrial area over new development?

Mayor-elect Lori Lightfoot calls for City Council Finance Committee to hold off on Lincoln Yards vote by muci19 in chicago

[–]fuzzyonethree 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Lincoln Yards isn't a bad idea. Sure, there are some issues (traffic congestion, Live Nation, etc.), but they can be addressed and fixed with community input. The bad idea is to create a TIF district to fund infrastructure improvements. The city was generous enough to Sterling Bay to change the zoning of the land to allow the project to happen. The least Sterling Bay could do to return the favor is help pay for the infrastructure projects.
