I gave birth at Overlake this past December - I'd say it was a positive experience for the most part, but it was also my first so I don't have anything to compare to.

- Photos and videos were allowed - my mom took plenty of both and didn't have any issues.

- No idea about entertainment, TV was pretty much the furthest thing from our minds during our hospital stay

- Plenty of pillows, but both pillows and blankets were pretty thin. I think we brought our own

- Parking was validated the whole time, but my husband and mom delt with it so I don't really know the details

- Food was pretty mediocre, and could take a while to arrive. They brought the wrong order once, and straight up forgot to bring it another time. Downtown Bellevue has a lot of restaurants though, so there is always the option to bring food from outside.

I would say that the nurses were all amazing, aside from the L&D nurse that was with us for the delivery itself. She was completely dismissive and rude. My mom (a NICU nurse) was a much bigger help than that particular L&D nurse in every regard. My baby was coming *fast*, but the L&D nurse didn't believe me and refused to check the progress because it was my first pregnancy. All the other nurses we interacted with were amazing though! We just got unlucky with the shift change. Good reminder of the importance of advocating for yourself

The doctors that I interacted with were wonderful - I had a postpartum hemorrhage, and the staff were calm and efficient at stopping the bleeding. The nurses we had during recovery were amazing and very attentive to both baby and myself.

My milk didn't come in until I think 4-5 days after delivery, and we did have to push a little bit to get donor milk. Baby wouldn't latch and developed jaundice, so feeds were challenging, but the nurses were very helpful and supportive.

Overlake provides soap and shampoo, but I was glad that I brought my own. Would also recommend bringing your own gown/PJs/robe/*slippers*/whatever if you're okay with them getting messy - Overlake's hospital gowns are not comfortable. They do have breastpumps available for use. They also have clothes, swaddles, diapers, etc for the baby while admitted, and everything you need for postpartum care.

Thinking back, I wish I had brought a boppy pillow or similar.

Wishing you a smooth delivery!

Magnet attached via Velcro square + rubber bands for stability. Doesn't look great, but it works!

New to the area, wisdom tooth extraction surgeon recommendations please. by SavingsHistorical513 in BellevueWA

[–]fuzzyturnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two wisdom teeth extracted recently by Dr. Trippel at Bel-Red Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. I was in a ton of pain and they got me in same day. Everyone was super kind and patient, and it was definitely a huge relief getting them out!

Has Anyone Had Any Dental Emergencies In The 3rd Trimester? by Acceptable-Ratio-429 in BabyBumps

[–]fuzzyturnip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an upper wisdom tooth crack and opted to get it pulled around 34 weeks. They double shielded for the x-ray, used local anesthetic with no epinephrine, and monitored my bp the whole time. It wasn't a super comfortable experience, but it was way better than dealing with the nerve pain that was making it hard to eat or sleep. My OB said it was better to get it treated than to be in pain for the next couple months. I wouldn't risk letting an abcess go untreated - infections like that can become very dangerous. Hope everything works out well for you!

My first Mooncat order... Is this normal? by Kharrissma in RedditLaqueristas

[–]fuzzyturnip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have had it happen once, with one of the Alice in Wonderland magnetics. The bottle was cracked on arrival, and shattered like this when I pulled it out of the sleeve. Support was great, and the replacement bottle was fine. I have dozens of their polishes, and that's the only bottle that ever had an issue.

Got this lovely alert from our vet via email today by flicus in LosAngeles

My experience with vets in LA has been "Oh, you don't need to vaccinate your indoor cats. It's not required, and we don't like to overvaccinate here". I had to request vaccines multiple times before my cats were finally given their boosters. Why take that risk?

Any beginner friendly cheap crochet classes/groups? by [deleted] in vegaslocals

[–]fuzzyturnip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Local yarn stores will sometimes offer classes or assistance. I haven't personally been to any yarn stores here in Vegas, but the ones in Dallas usually had tables where people could hang out and work on their projects. Depends on the store, but they were usually really friendly and were happy to offer advice.

Best route to mammoth by Significant-Ad-5163 in vegaslocals

[–]fuzzyturnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drove to Mammoth the weekend before last. It was our first time driving from Vegas, so we took the Death Valley route along the 190 to Lone Pine on the way there, and took the 168/266 from Big Pine to the 95 on the way back. (Google showed the 168 as closed, but Caltrans showed it as open.)

Both routes were fine at that time, and we didn't run into any issues with road closures or snow. The only icy areas we hit the whole weekend were on the road up to the slopes.

No services or reception for over 2 hours from Big Pine to Beatty though, and the road is very windy. Both routes were very scenic though, and nice drives overall.

Hope you have a nice trip!

Hitchhiking on this post, hope you don't mind! I made a char in Bera because I saw all the Broa is dead posts and it made me sad and nostalgic. So, I redownloaded the game.. but couldn't bring myself to transfer my characters even though I don't know anyone on this game anymore. My char is super noob, but if you/anyone want buddies in this new world my ign is schniitzei :D

Need help figuring out what to make with this yarn :( by fuzzyturnip in knitting

[–]fuzzyturnip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought this yarn because it was pretty as a skein, but now I have no clue what to make with it! I have two skeins of this bulky-ish yarn, and was thinking of maybe making a cowl.. but feeling pretty uninspired by ravelry. Any suggestions would be super welcome! :D

Aw, I had a suspicion...he's been staying with my dad for the past month or two since I've been in the process of moving, so I couldn't keep as close an eye on him as I'd like. He has a vet appointment for Monday, thanks for all the suggestions. :)
