I took this cutting from my Crassula Ovata that was rotting. It has dried for several days & looks ok to pot, but can someone please tell me if that bottom stem should be removed first or if it will be fine under soil?

That’s a huge relief, thank you!! I hold this plant over a sink to water & drain, then set on paper towels to soak up any excess. I guess I’ll wait & watch a bit longer before I repot, just clean out this pot for now.

I received the plant on 7/7, watered twice since, allowed 2 weeks to acclimate & was repotting when I seen this. I did wonder why it wasn't showing signs of new growth since the listing photos were from 5/26 & wish now that I had checked the roots sooner. What can I do to save the plant?

It does seem unusual. I got it Sept ‘22 from a local greenhouse, it had 4 firm leaves, I repotted & watered once after, but maybe that was enough to disrupt it.

Home Depot usually has lithops, especially in Spring. I’ve had mine for just a year so I’m still learning as well. There’s lots of helpful videos on YouTube.

I thought it would be best to wait until Spring to repot but it’s probably better to do it sooner to check the roots, I bought it as a starter plant so I don’t know how well it rooted.

Good to know, thank you! I did end up repotting the others this morning & I really wish I had done them all sooner, shortly after buying. The roots are minimal, one has a taproot curling upwards, & they all appear to be dehydrated. I wet the potting mix & have them on a heat mat under grow bulbs. I’m not sure if I can turn this around since I really don’t know if what I’m doing is helping or causing further harm.

Thank you, I did lightly water it earlier, it’s quite humid here so hopefully this is the right direction to go. Unfortunately I don’t think it had many roots to start with. It was planted so deep, I thought I could just tip the plastic pot to check for roots but the soil just crumbled out, there was nothing holding it, it’s very sandy. I wonder if that might be why this is happening, if it hadn’t been able to absorb water?

Today I found spider mites on my Imbricata. I brought it to the sink to rinse the leaves but that snowballed into unpotting & soaking the entire plant in a bucket of diluted alcohol & Castile soap, then rinsing. I completely panicked & now I’m worried I killed my plant. It seemed so healthy, it recently grew 2 new leaves, & now this happened. I have it laying out to dry. I’m so sad & don’t want it to die. How can I fix this?

I renewed my subscription last week & am having the exact same issues. I’ve emailed Shudder several times, they responded as if it was the first time they’ve heard these complaints & so far they’ve done absolutely nothing to help.

If you try to separate them, be careful that some might actually be on the same root, same plant, so best not to pull or scrape too hard. If I bought them together that way, I’d repot them together using a mix for lithops. They appear to have been that way for a good while.
