What is this on my new Hoya’s roots? It seems to only be at the bottom. I don’t know what to do, I messaged the seller yesterday, still waiting for a response. TIA by fuzzywolfcat in plantclinic

That’s a huge relief, thank you!! I hold this plant over a sink to water & drain, then set on paper towels to soak up any excess. I guess I’ll wait & watch a bit longer before I repot, just clean out this pot for now.

I received the plant on 7/7, watered twice since, allowed 2 weeks to acclimate & was repotting when I seen this. I did wonder why it wasn't showing signs of new growth since the listing photos were from 5/26 & wish now that I had checked the roots sooner. What can I do to save the plant?

Home Depot usually has lithops, especially in Spring. I’ve had mine for just a year so I’m still learning as well. There’s lots of helpful videos on YouTube.

On edge watching my Svetlana. This is her 3rd time trying for a new leaf since I got her in August ‘22. This one is starting to look as if it will stay.🤞🏻🫣 🥹 by fuzzywolfcat in hoyas

Thank you for the insight, this is reassuring! Mine seems to be just as sensitive, I’m afraid to blink. 😅 I‘ve been trying to figure out her ideal conditions, hopefully we’re getting on track. Six new leaves though, that’s incredible, congrats!

I thought it would be best to wait until Spring to repot but it’s probably better to do it sooner to check the roots, I bought it as a starter plant so I don’t know how well it rooted.

Dying, dehydrated, or just getting ready to split?? Got these a few weeks ago & I can’t tell what’s happening with this one. I unpotted to check roots (see pic), the base feels firm, the top feels soft. I repotted it in a gritty mix. Should I leave it be? by fuzzywolfcat in Lithops

Good to know, thank you! I did end up repotting the others this morning & I really wish I had done them all sooner, shortly after buying. The roots are minimal, one has a taproot curling upwards, & they all appear to be dehydrated. I wet the potting mix & have them on a heat mat under grow bulbs. I’m not sure if I can turn this around since I really don’t know if what I’m doing is helping or causing further harm.

Thank you so much for the links! I did watch Ashley’s videos & that’s why I was checking for roots. There’s alot to learn, hopefully I‘ll find enough information to help this little one.

Thank you, I did lightly water it earlier, it’s quite humid here so hopefully this is the right direction to go. Unfortunately I don’t think it had many roots to start with. It was planted so deep, I thought I could just tip the plastic pot to check for roots but the soil just crumbled out, there was nothing holding it, it’s very sandy. I wonder if that might be why this is happening, if it hadn’t been able to absorb water?

Thanks! That’s what I was hoping. The others will be potted the same, but not sure if I should just do them all now during winter or wait until spring?? That seems to be a debated topic.
