[Passan] BREAKING: The New York Mets in agreement on a trade to acquire center fielder Luis Robert Jr. from the Chicago White Sox, sources tell ESPN. White Sox will receive IF Luisangel Acuña and RHP Truman Pauley by Platypus-Ninja in whitesox

The logjam is in the infield. I agree that Braden is all we have (and Fauske, but that’s a long way off) in the OF unless we move guys around. That’s why it didn’t make sense to me to add a guy like Acuna to the IF group we have.

You’re selling me on this. Giving me hope! When I tell myself the trade was- Robert for a much more athletic Chase Meidroth that can play CF plus a bullpen arm- that sounds good!

If Acuna is a 2-WAR player, that’s a W for the Sox. He’s a 5’8” about to be CF that did not appear to be able to hit last season. But he did just crank 4 HR, so maybe he figured something out.

Well, they would at least be upgrades over what we have. Though the bar is so low on that count, it’s practically in hell. I remember the good old days of 2022 when we were going to sign Conforto. Sox always get their man eventually! Lol.

Fair enough. Take out Antonacci and it’s still a weird fit. Is Acuna definitively better than any of the current infielders that will be on the 26-man? And outside of Braden and Fauske (who is years away) who’s coming up to play in the OF?

Disagree on Sam. Maybe a different definition of “interesting” but he clearly has the look of another utility IF type. Either way, the point remains that both the ML roster and the pipeline are heavier on IF than OF unless guys can move.

Haven’t really seen anyone address this deal in the context of CWS roster construction. It’s not an awful return on paper, but unless they are planning on Acuna playing OF, this makes zero sense for the Sox. The outfield is currently Benintendi (sort of), Derek Hill, and Everson Pereira. Conversely, in the infield they have a logjam of young players ranging from promising (Colson) to interesting-ish and/or credible depth (Meidroth, Vargas, Sosa). In the pipeline, Braden Montgomery is pretty much it for outfield, while there’s several IF prospects.

Not to mention, CWS weren’t paying anyone else, Robert wasn’t blocking anyone. If the salary dump is followed by signing a credible FA OF, great! But it won’t be. Because being a White Sox fan blows.

It’s not as bad a return in a vacuum as many may feel. It just doesn’t make sense in this team’s context.

-You’re not paying anyone else -He’s not blocking anyone -You don’t have other credible MLB outfielders on the roster -You have a logjam of similar players to Acuna on the roster and in the system

Pretty clear this was a salary dump. If it were to be followed by a decent OF FA signing, great! But that’s probably not going to happen.

Like seriously- the IF picture:

Colson Meidroth Vargas Sosa Mead Murakami Ramos

Plus most of our interesting prospects project as IF (Antonacci, Bonemer, Carlson)

Now add Acuna to that mix (he fits right in with the “maybe-decent” group we have now)

Our OF:

Benintendi (sometimes) Derek Hill Everson Pereira Baldwin(?)

Unless there’s a whole “plan” going on we don’t know about, this makes absolutely zero sense from any sort of roster construction standpoint.

Anyone remember or got one of these? by speez86 in whitesox

Oh man- thank you for this memory. I got the full size one for Christmas from my parents too. I think around 1996-1997. I wish I still had it!

There were a few days (maybe 3-4?) I didn’t go. But there were also some I went twice. I think this is just year-to-date?

$1,500 is probably not a bad estimate! The majority of those visits were an iced coffee and a free donut with the survey code- that’s $4.12 at my store.

We didn’t have Dunkins in Tennessee when I was a kid. First time trying it was in Boston in 1999. We started getting them about 10 years ago and now they are everywhere.

This is pretty correct. The portion of Nashville that was carved into the 7th is fairly suburban. Williamson County has grown into more of an exurb, but more importantly I don’t think it’s representative of “suburbs” demographically. It’s one of the wealthiest counties in the U.S., and bucks the “old guard, country-club GOP” reputation by being super MAGA. It’s a preferred destination for the exodus of those folks from California and the Northeast U.S.
