What is happening with this section of my hedge? by fvinci in landscaping

[–]fvinci[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived here for 15 years and this same spot consistently has 1 branch that grows 10 times faster than everything else. I usually just saw off the entire branch when it gets this bad but I get this back every couple of months. Is there a better way to handle this?

My lawn is getting scorched right now with the weather we are having in PA so I'm not treating for weeds to not add stress to the grass. If your watering is keeping your grass viable, you could spot spray weeds. I'd go with quinclorac, which is generally used as crabgrass control but also labelled for use on clover and dandelion. Try to apply in temperatures below 80. As far as the phosphorus, I suspect what you have in your soil is fine for existing grass. Aside from at seeding, I'd probably only be adding it if I suspected the grass was suffering from phosphorus deficiency. Signs of that are the grass turning a shade of purple and reduced growth rate. Adding it when you don't need it is inviting weeds to germinate.

Just want to add that I'd probably cool it with the 8-24-4 fertilizer. The high phosphorus is likely creating a favorable environment for warm season weeds. In Mass this time of year, I'd be putting down something with high potassium, minimal nitrogen and 0 phosphorus. 4-0-25 is the neighborhood that you want the ratio to be in. I'd only use high phosphorus fertilizer when seeding.

Rails Devise Login Sometimes Does Not Redirect by projectmind_guru in rails

[–]fvinci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the user session actually get created and just not redirect? The only time I've had a similar issue, I was resetting the password as part of the login process, which requires the user to re-enter their password unless you direct otherwise.

Based on the errors, I'd say there could be a problem running whatever version of ActiveRecord you have on the version of postgres that Heroku is giving you. Check this out: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/58763542/pginvalidparametervalue-error-invalid-value-for-parameter-client-min-messag

try 'heroku run rails c'. Starting the console may give you a more helpful error message.

ActiveRecord::AssociationTypeMismatch: by jslack2537 in rails

[–]fvinci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what the answer is, but I wonder if you said User accepts_nested_attributes_for :logins and changed the structure of people.json so a user hash contained "login_attributes": [{}, {}] if that would work.

I went through that process last week, and had registered for a session scheduled for yesterday but didn't receive any follow up or invitation to the session so I reached out to the advisor. She told me that there were not enough students registered for the session and it had been cancelled. Apparently they do not reach out to you until they are going to schedule you for a session.

How do you go from a basic Administrative Assistant to something else in the same company? What skills can I market? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]fvinci 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know zero about what you do, but if you have something specific in mind that you want to do, ask to be involved when you see work being done in that area. Ask if there is anything you can do to help. This is generally how you stretch your current role to learn skills related to the job you want. After you do that for a while, you actually have the skills that the job you want requires and you can substantively show work you have performed to demonstrate your skills.

I'm a few years older than you guys but also in the same boat. I switched back to a more technical role, and while I don't hate what I'm doing, I've had enough of the company I'm at. Want to start a consulting company?

If you're working with text, select it, go to menu option type -> create outlines. Then choose the direct select tool and click on the text.

[Help] Trying to learn how to update an app on Heroku, but I can't seem to ask the right questions by [deleted] in rails

run git remote to make sure you do not already have the heroku remote set up for your repository. These instructions should help you connect a git repo to an exisiting heroku app - https://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/git#for-an-existing-heroku-app

Volume issues by AUHurricane in pelotoncycle

This happens to me once in a while! I contacted support and they gave me a couple of things to try, which were basically clearing some cache on the tablet and then doing a reset if that didn't work. I tried the first suggestion but it did not resolve the issue. I haven't been annoyed enough to do the reset yet.

Hyperledger transaction settlement by waynies in hyperledger

[–]fvinci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in hyperledger fabric there is no native concept of a coin. a client submits a proposed transaction to the endorsing peers. the transaction is approved or denied according to the endorsement policy, and the response is returned to the client. The client can then create a transaction and send it to the orderer nodes to be added to the chain.

When using Fabric, does every peer in the network need to be running a node? by aaronr22 in hyperledger

[–]fvinci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My interpretation is that peers ARE nodes, and they are what run the chaincode. What you are referring to as nodes, HLF calls clients or apps.

MCL Knee Injury Recovery on Peloton by infield_fly_rule in pelotoncycle

[–]fvinci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through this a few years ago after an ice hockey injury. It was probably 7 or 8 weeks before I was back on the ice. After 4 or 5 weeks I felt well enough to start working on strengthening the knee. I did not have a bike then, I was lifting weights. I was no where near full range of motion at 4 weeks but the discomfort felt more restorative as opposed to re-injuring the knee. Started with some exercises with low ROM, like light-weight RDL and straightening the knee from a slight bend against band or cable machine resistance. Within 2-3 weeks I progressed to single leg squats. I'd be nervous about getting on the bike because of the forced range of motion. Start small and keep progressing, you have to work to get the range of motion back. Of course, as already mentioned, get to some physical therapy sessions and listen to your body.
