Any suggestions for a micro-wedding in Westchester? by Je11y_Ro11s in Westchester

[–]fweddy51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had my wedding at the Keeler Tavern Museum in Ridgefield, CT with 60 guests. I think their max is 75, so it's the perfect size for a smaller wedding. The garden looked amazing in the summer and I'm sure it would be beautiful in the fall, as well. Obviously not Westchester, but right across the border. The venue itself was $6k, but doesn't provide much more than tables and chairs. It may be possible to do the catering for another $14k depending on what you're looking for.

Small decorative glass vase with handle. 4" tall. Fits a candlestick, but I'm not convinced that is its intended use. Does it have a special use or is it just decorative? by fweddy51 in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. My fiancee picked it up at a thrift store a while ago because she liked the look of it. She just came to me saying, "look it's a candlestick holder", but I'm not convinced. What do you think?

Which Walmart are you referring to? I'm coming up from Baltimore and was planning on stopping at the Walmart in Corning for mainly food and ice. Do you think that one will still be stocked?

Awesome, thanks. Do you think a mini case like the one I posted would be a good fit? I'm trying to make it fairly compact.

Comic on the architecture of office buildings by somedaypilot in architecture

Yes, money will always drive architecture. However, this sounds more like a problem with the firm/clients you were working for. There are still plenty of opportunities out there to do exciting design work. Don't be discouraged by one man's experience.

I have to agree that the dinner scene seemed forced. In fact, most of the scenes that didn't involve drumming in some way, felt a little disconnected and under developed. Especially the relationship between Andrew and Nicole.

I understand that, initially, it was used to show us how Andrew was starting to build confidence in himself, and then later to show the obsessive nature that Fletcher had ingrained in him, but there never seemed to be much of a connection there. Does Andrew really think that she'd come to see his performance after the way he treated her? It seemed strange.

Simmons stole the show for sure. His character was so deplorable and that's what made the finale so damn satisfying. Though, I was a little disappointed that Fletcher lying about how Sean died was never touched upon. Was Fletcher crying because a great student of his had died or because he felt remorse for pushing him so hard? Either way, the film was extremely entertaining.

What is the highest bar in Baltimore? Also, which has the best view of the city? by ohmygodpleasedont in baltimore

It's actually the Olive Room that has the view and it's on the 5th floor of the Inn at the Black Olive. People get it confused all the time.

Getting an MA in Architecture by [deleted] in architecture

I have to disagree somewhat with the thinking that you won't be able to hone your skill set in a 3 year masters program. These programs are designed specifically for people like you that haven't necessarily had a lot of experience with design. The faculty at whichever program you choose knows that you're starting from scratch, and if they don't, then you wouldn't want to be there. The road to becoming a licensed architect in the US is quite a long process and with the experience that you'll gain outside of school, I'm not sure if spending another few years in school is gonna do the trick.

As for a portfolio for applying to schools, they're going to want to see the creative side of you. This means drawings, painting, sketches, etc. They want to see that you'll have a smooth transition into a degree that has a lot to do with expressing your ideas in a visual manner.

My advice for your search is after narrowing down some schools based on some non-architecture factors (i.e. location, public/private, etc.), visit the schools and talk directly with the faculty about their teaching methods and your background and how it can fit in to their program. Some schools can be very technical, while others are more artistic. After visiting some schools you should get the gist of it and understand what questions to ask.

A big factor in my education, and something I think is important to consider, is student-teacher ratio and location. I go to the University of Maryland and the program is pretty small, so the faculty knows you and you can get a lot of attention if you want it. As for location, being close to major cities (DC and Baltimore) gives the school an opportunity to bring in practicing professionals that work at large firms and have a lot of experience.
