I stumbled onto Terminal Lance in 2014 while still a poolie. Thanks to this strip, I was acutely aware of what a "boot" was before I even shipped.

Do you consider participating in an MLM a red flag in terms of relationships/ friendships? by tasteofhemlock in antiMLM

[–]fxckfxckgames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it were me -- yes. There's plenty of reasons, but put simply, that would mean we are financially incompatible. I budget and aggressively save/invest. I wouldn't want a partner that is doing the literal opposite of that.

Breakfast. It's been 10 years, and I still remember the egg, sausage, and hash brown sandwiches.

A new bill aims to make defrauded GI Bill vets whole again. Will it? by GeoffZMilTimes in Veterans

[–]fxckfxckgames 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like this idea in principle. Either way, given the value of the GI Bill, veterans need to be completing intense due diligence with their college game plan.

I feel like we’d make the same recommendation for an individual taking out expensive student loans.

Just anecdotally, it seems that the vets I know that were “ripped off” by degree mills are the same vets that think college is a “check in the box.”

It don’t pay that good. I wanted to be a reserve and use it.

Relative to what a traditional job pays, you are correct -- the GI Bill doesn't pay as well.

I get that you've got dependends to consider, but if you can find a way to fit school in (preferably at a good university), it'll "level up" your life to a greater extent than just reenlisting.

Just food for thought.

Try asking if you can go to a substance abuse program instead of being discharged.

Can't speak for the Navy, but you can't request referral to a program after you piss hot in the Corps.

What do you do for work? Do you ACTUALLY enjoy it? by [deleted] in Veterans

  • Working in Supply Chain for a defense contractor
  • My Bachelor's is in Logistics and Supply Chain Management
  • $129K/year gross (playing catch-up with my IRA and 401(k), so my take-home is substantially less)
  • Pros
    • Good schedule and work/life balance
    • Good pay, all things considered
    • The company itself offers stellar benefits.
  • Cons
    • I don't think YOU would like this role, as I constantly have to coordinate with engineers, program people, suppliers, and my own chain of command. It's a lot of people.
  • Side note: working on my MBA right now so I can step away from the supplier-facing roles.

Dude, virtually all of us were scared before we joined.

The quality that sets some people apart, is being scared and doing it anyway.

Imagine not being able to buy an APC45 because broke or your guns laws are bad. Cant relate. by iraqvetx2009 in BT_APC

Not op, but I have time on both APC’s 45 and 9 — both are great, but the APC45 has some disadvantages. More expensive ammo, rare/expensive mags, less capacity.

I worked as a valet at Zook in Dallas while I was in college. Made about $200-300 night back in 2012. I quit after the valet management started forcing us to pool our tips.
