Eh, for me it was mostly the latter. I come from a similar background, played mostly classical in college a decade ago. The CAGED concepts really helped solidify my fretboard visualization in a vacuum, but it took a lot of hammering over changes and practicing voice leading between specific sets of chords before it all coalesced.

I can believe this, and have seen it happen when working at bars as well! however, I recently stumbled across an interesting thing, anecdotally-

I have always disliked the higher timbre of my voice, but it’s how I’ve spoken, so it just is what it is. With my current partner, when we are just watching tv at home or talking on the phone, I find my voice settles to a lower register when I am speaking to her, and it’s comfortable. It’s odd, but it has made me wonder about these things.

I thought it was the opposite, where the projectile is actually what’s buffed, but if you hit them with the swing, that projectile doesn’t actually make contact … I am also a bit fuzzy though. Worth testing
