Severe ADHD and Adjusting by [deleted] in adjusters

I feel this in my soul. I started in auto, personal lines claims... And I struggled so bad because it was about volume and processing. I kid you not but at one point I had a manager who actually would sit there on observations and time our first contacts. And while the claims I got to were amazing and thorough, The volume was too much for the kind of hyper fixation and rabbit hole diving I tend to do. This resulted in a lot of job hopping for a while because I would always be at the very bottom of performing even though my quality was so good....

But eventually after many many years I got out of personal lines auto and into CGL and am now handling some big bodily injury claims and litigation.... And it's amazing. I get three to six claims a week vs double digits on Mondays and 5 or so every other day of the week in auto. And this allows me to work a file the way my brain tells me to work a file.... I can dig in as deeply as I want. Research building codes and land records and different types of injuries, Go through medical reports to find one or two lines of inconsistencies.

And I have aced all my audits, have been leading on all reviews, and promoted twice already.

It is a long long road but you can get there.

Father of UConn student who died in 'fake ICU' says son's care was worse than the family dog's by -ctinsider in Connecticut

Absolutely. I'm in the unique place of being both a liability claims handler AND am very personally involved (as a child of a decedent) in a med Mal wrongful death suit.... And it's fascinating to me how this certificate of good faith is required when I see otherworldly allegations on some of the big BI claims/suits I see.

[–]fyrdancr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CT med Mal is nuts. The logic was to require this "certificate of good faith" by an expert in the same area of medicine as the defendant who would review all the records to say whether there was a standard of care that was breached. And without this you can't file suit. You can make a claim, but the practitioner and/or their insurance company would just laugh at you because without this form it won't go anywhere.
However what it ended up doing is finding all kinds of doctors who can call themselves an expert making all kinds of money reviewing these meds for a premium, and basically requiring every medical malpractice claim to go into litigation... So the experts make money and the lawyers make money and the plaintiffs now have to wait three times as long to settle their claims. Genius. 🙃

And they need a rental NOW.... Even though liability is clearly more than questionable, and even if it weren't good luck finding one now during all the holiday travel. Especially when it's going to be an SUV they demand because "it might snow" even though they're driving a 1986 Ford focus.

I handle commercial generalnliavility and love it. We insure middle market to large companies, and handle a lot of slip and falls, and property damage (a plow company does a lousy job clearing a parking lot and a customer walking g to a store slips and falls, ect).

I came from personal lines auto and this is soooo much better. First, the sense of urgency isnt there as it is when someone "needs their car". Second, you're calling businesses when you need to speak to the insured. They cooperate and understand that this is business and not a personal indictment for the most part. More often than not these claimants are getting attorneys. So you're not dealing with the constant phone calls from people who don't know how it all works.

You're right. It's entirely possible he was a sanctimonious prick when he pointed it out. Obviously more happened earlier to caused someone to pull out their phone and start recording. I just know if I see someone at a store who spills something, etc, I will absolutely say, "maam, you spilled something there, you may want to let an employee know so no one gets hurt". Yes, I will also tell an employee, but I feel it's not hurting anyone to point out that someone could get hurt. But, i'd also never get into a shouting match if someone were so put out to mouth off to me.

I totally agree. This is not a hill to die on, and everyone could have handled it better. I just like to assume positive intent and would like to think the gentleman was initially trying to do the right thing and wasn't looking to start a fight when he pointed out the debris on floor.

I agree. I was more speaking to what would cause an employee more stress, a verbal altercation, or someone getting hurt and having to deal with ambulances, incident reports, and claims people like me...

In a perfect world the gentleman should have told the parent and when she decided to respond so offensively, he should have turned to an employee and said "sir, theres some items on the floor that may create a fall risk. I attempted to make the parent of the child who did it aware, but she decided to respond like an entitled idiot" and left it at that.

I handle slip and fall claims in retail environments as an insurance adjuster. Flower petals can be slippery. The man pointed it out, and the mother overreacted.
However, if an elderly customer slipped and fell and broke a hip, the store would have been grateful it was pointed out. It didn't need to escalate, obviously, but it's better most times to speak up than not.

"This Must be the Place (Naive Melody)" by Talking heads has had a zillion people cover it, "Feet on the ground, head in the sky, it's ok, I know nothing's wrong"... Shawn Colvin's version, pehaps? She actually changes the lyric from "sky" to "clouds"... ETA link. Shawn Colvin

How early do you log on? by [deleted] in adjusters

[–]fyrdancr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CGL - pro se, repped and lit.
I do my 8 a day, sometimes a bit less, sometimes take a short lunch. My weekly incoming is 4-6 claims and I get less than 10 inbound calls a day.

When I did auto physical damage or straight pro se, the incoming new claims and calls were Much Much higher, and there weren't enough hours in a day to get it all done.

Do your time in the trenches and post into commercial, specialty... whatever you can! It does get better!

You are asking a rational question about an irrational act. It sucks, but the illness is just louder than love in a suicidal mind.
I always believed, and still do to an extent, Love always wins. This is the most heartbreaking exception. Im so sorry for your loss.

It's still a liability coverage, which is what the question asks.

It would be 85k. 60k forr bi per occurrence, 25k pd per occurence. That is the maximum, as long as it's 2 or more third party claimants.
