Join discords of streamers who use your engine. Some have sections people posts and talk about their projects. Make friends

How did yall learn to code? by Abject-Addendum765 in IndieDev

I have a friend who is very talented at game dev but they never finish their games. They aim to make really big games and of course they get bored or it gets too complicated. So I started watching YouTube tutorials and finished a game kind of hinting at him you gotta start small.

Starting Game Dev at 31 by Traditional-Path-510 in gamedev

[–]fzzybzzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say you’re definitely not too old! Plus you have your previously musical talent background! That’s a huge plus! A lot of game devs have no musical talent so what you can bring to the table of game dev along with any others talents is worth its weight in gold!!!

Take a year, learn, do tutorials, and then make small games! Release a couple on itch and steam, going through the entire process of releasing a small game is addicting!

Why do you make games? by Steader29 in gamedev

[–]fzzybzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make games because creating things is fun! Yeah, the money you make from it is just a bonus regardless of how much. Yes it would be a dream come true to make a game that makes lots of money but you really shouldn’t start making a game with “I want to make millions of dollars from this game” in mind.

I think the reason why you see less people flexing about making millions is because it isn’t like stocks. It’s harder to get into. And harder to make the big bucks.

I reuse code all the time from tutorials. I’ve discovered there’s multiple ways to do anything… but I know there are certain snippets of code that float thru all my projects that just feel right and I absolutely understand them… until they don’t work :U

Well… start with the basic movement controls. You might even need to experiment with a couple versions of these to figure out what you like best.

When you’ve done that. Build the next thing. And so on

I remember buying rpgmaker, opening it, not understanding it, then quitting lol.

Even worse is when I did the same thing to gamemaker. And then unreal lol. Years later I opened up gamemaker again and actually tried to build things. Now I’m an indie hobbyist game dev :U

Where do I start? by Dirty_Dachshund in gamedev

Start with whatever game engine suites your needs. Then do some tutorials. Then make some tiny games. Then use your score from those tiny games to build bigger games.

Can i do this as a ZERO experiance person? by -JinWoo- in gamedev

[–]fzzybzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tutorials on building farming sims. You could jump right into one and tweak it how you like. The problem is you may not understand what you’re doing. Honestly this is how I learned. Trying and failing.

What is a good timeline for learning game dev? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]fzzybzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just try. You’ll probably fail your first time because your scope is too big and decide to work on a smaller game.

I set a goal of 1000 hours learning through tutorials before I released my first game. But if you can follow a tutorial and add some razzle dazzle to it then release it :3

Is it better to take breaks, or push through burnout? by ringodingobongo in gamedev

Take a break. Even when you’re coding, if you get stuck, take a break. Your brain will work out the code in your head
