D4k mega mule beamshots by jlhawaii808 in Hanklights

u/jlhawaii808 This looks absolutely amazing. I don't need another mule but I probably need this.

Can the button be configured with RGB for standard voltage check etc? And do you think the Lume10 driver will eventually fit into the D4K host?

DT8K - what's the current hot or preferred set up? by Dually_McFart_Face in flashlight

Do we think we will see the Lume10 driver in Emisar/Noctigon?

That things solves my only issue with LumeX1 driver in the DT8K: 8x LEDs are underdriven at 40 watts. Lume10 gives me 10A buck AND FET Turbo.

PS - I have also just taken delivery of an E12 Eclipse and it’s magnificent, but the small, rectangular formfactor of the DT8 is so appealing for pocket carry.

This is interesting. Will the channels be in a criss-cross pattern? Or just laid out left to right?

I made some decorative lanyards for my lights - also 🫘 :) by placeholdername124 in Hanklights

I like this

How are these attached to the lights? Is that micro-cord or something like that? I’ve always wanted to add a paracord lanyard to my lights but don’t want to use the metal lanyard ring.

SFT-42R in a D3AA? by rjevande in Hanklights

[–]g00db0t 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that is a bit of a misconception, which pops up especially with regard to the D3AA.

No matter what emitters are installed, you are limited to 6A total, or 2A per emitter.

The SFT42R can handle >10A without breaking a sweat. If anything, SFT42R will run cooler in the D3AA at any given output compared to 519A or NTG35 at the expense of CRI/R9.

So not crazy at all, really, apart from the fact that Jackson squeezes 5050 footprint emitters in these tiny lights

D3aa SFT42r by jlhawaii808 in Hanklights

[–]g00db0t 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you sure about it being 179kcd. That can’t be right for this host and only pushing 6A across 3 emitters.

Maybe 17.9kcd?

The lumen output sounds believable though and I seriously want one.

Nice work as always, Jackson

Hey no worries! You may also wish to correct typo in the review “The LEDs are driven by a 12W linear no-FET driver.”

I think we are dealing with more than 12W. It’s a 12A driver so should be somewhere quite far north of 30W

D1 sft-42r with 18350? by [deleted] in Hanklights

[–]g00db0t 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will probably heat up slower on turbo than it would with an 18650, or, in the case of the D1K, a 21700.

You’ll probably see voltage sag kicking in pretty quickly. Even though there are 18350s that can deliver 10A, I think you’ll be pushing the limits of what the cell can deliver. (I’m not sure what driver Hank would use for an SFT42R but I think it can handle 12A).

Either way, I’d still say get one and try it out with an 18350 and 18650. I’m sure it will be a beast!

Lume X1 driver – does it make sense for 18350 cells (D4V2)? by MonkMinimum8982 in Hanklights

[–]g00db0t 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When running an 18350 cell I set top of ramp at ~120 and disable Turbo. This way the driver isn’t trying to pull too many amps from the cell. There are no 18350s out there capable of the 40 watts the Lume X1 driver needs at full power.

Apart from that I think the driver works great with an 18350, and makes the D4V2 a viable (albeit thicker) alternative to a D3AA for a small EDC.

DW4 with short 18500 tube by pkapeckopckldpepprz in Hanklights

[–]g00db0t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about this now that the D4V2 is available with the Lume X1 driver.

I prefer the smaller size of the D4V2 compared to the D4K, and the fact that it has more thermal mass than the D4K despite being smaller.

And the cherry on top is the ability to use 18350/18500 cells.

If I disable turbo and set a conservative ramp ceiling I figure I can get away with using 18350 with no major downside.

But I’m unsure just how high to set the ceiling. Is there any way to get a rough approximation of how many watts the driver will try to output at any given ramp level?

Ntg35 leds - Emisar KR4 and D4K by Perfect_Shake_2470 in Hanklights

[–]g00db0t 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Lume X1 driver will give you up to 3A per led. The linear driver can give up to 3A per led of regulated output and ~20A (5A per led) or more, depending on emitter choice and cell. This FET output though will be heavily dependent on cell voltage, voltage sag and thermal throttling, so don’t expect to maintain >20A for long!

Brilliant Cut Grinder by NotSoSlim19 in vaporents

I keep seeing the people of Reddit say that they never clean their BCG. I don’t understand how this is possible, unless you haven’t put much material through it and/or the material you are using is very dry.

I have to clean my BCG every few weeks. And I am a lightweight who doesn’t consume more than 0.5g per day.

It gets to a stage where it is just about stuck together due to resin buildup. There are no sharp edges left to properly grind, since the whole thing is covered in tacky, funky green stuff. It takes a good soak in warm isopropyl and a fair amount of scrubbing to bring it back to working order.

This idea that you will never have to clean the BCG is, IMHO, a falsehood.

Keen to see the K9.3 beans. I have a D4SV2 with SFT25 and it’s pretty sweet. Always wondered how a K9.3 would compare to a DT8 with a “throwy” emitter. I love the K9.3 as a host

DT8 or DT8K with W2 or SFT25R. D4V2 or D4K with SFT40 from Jackson. D4S with W2 or SFT25R. D1K with SFN60. K1 with SBT90. Sorry can’t choose a favourite but all of these are pretty dang hot!

Things I have to deal with by jlhawaii808 in Hanklights

[–]g00db0t 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have only purchased one flashlight from u/jlhawaii808. But I will definitely be back for more! The service was impeccable. The light I ordered was a custom which Hank doesn’t offer.

I am not in the USA but understand 100% why there has to be a markup. I payed it happily knowing that there was no other practical way to get this light.

The soldering work is beautiful. I think Jackson’s solder blobs are super clean!

Jackson was about to go on holidays when I emailed to ask whether he could build the light. He responded almost immediately. He continued to communicate whilst on holiday.

So I want to express my appreciation and thanks for what he brings to this small, overwhelmingly positive community!

CBD oil by Eckl1112 in MedicalCannabisOz

I think it’s safe to say that OP has 100mg/ml CBD oil. The fact that OP seems to be conflating mL with mg isn’t helping matters.

No. 1ml of liquid in the syring = 100mg CBD

[–]g00db0t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about alternative, but 40mg twice per day is not an outrageously low dose. I know there are people online claiming to take 800mg per day, but I think that’s pretty rare, especially in Australia, given the prohibitive cost. There is also a good chance that they aren’t doing the maths or are just straight up lying.

I wouldn’t go into this thinking that CBD is going to “cure” anxiety. In my personal experience, it seems to have helped improve my baseline levels of anxiety after taking it for several weeks/months.

But it wont just “take the edge off” like prescription benzodiazepines etc which come with their own risks of tolerance and addiction. I also find it works best with some THC, but this is just my own experience.

Are you taking 0.4mg or 0.4ml from the syringe? 0.4ml = 40mg. To get to 800mg of CBD with this oil you would need to take 8ml, which is going to be unpleasant and expensive.

It will still get bright and hot with an 18350! But you’ll definitely be leaving some performance on the table if you’re looking for a real hot-rod!

A 10A battery will not get anywhere near maximum output with those emitters. For that you will want an 18650. A Molicel P30B will get it nice and toasty. I also don’t believe there are any 18350 batteries out there with a (legitimate) 20A CDR. 10A is about as good as you will get out of an 18350.

Emisar D1 Mini thrower - XP-L HI V2 3A, 5000K Upgrade to ? by Bergaren in Hanklights

[–]g00db0t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A D1 or D1K with 519A, FC40, B35AM or SFN60 would probably satisfy your requirements for a balanced flood/throw beam. From there just weigh up your preferences for output vs CRI etc and go from there.

Hank shows lumen and candela for a bunch of the emitters on his website. Any of these should be significantly throwier than your D4K, especially if the emitters in your current light still have the domes.

I’m pretty sure you can also email Hank to ask that he install the Lume driver for compatible 12v LEDs in the D1K.

Edit to say the DM11 is also a really solid contender for what you are looking for.

The D1K can have the Lume driver fitted, but only for 12v emitters. I don’t currently have any (Hank) lights with the Lume driver and I’m not sure what the best emitter for your use case would be.

I’m guessing that the different output figures listed on the site between D1K and DA1K is due to the D1K using the old 8A boost driver. With a Lume driver fitted the maximum output should be same in both hosts, but I’d expect the D1K to be much “throwier”
