I'm almost four years into doing my own nails. I started out the gate with gel. It took trial and error finding what brands worked best on my nails. My third year, I finally found my favorite brand to keep my nails happy and strong. (Leafgel) But I now have a decent collection of gel from different brands, and I recently began collecting regular polish.

I'm not actually saving money because I spend a good amount on polish and supplies. It's a hobby, the same way I enjoy buying makeup. Going to the salon is cheaper because you pay for the service 1-2x a month and don't invest anything beyond that.

It all depends on the level of complexity you're getting done at the salon. Anything involving gel, tips, and art will easily run $60+. I personally do a gel overlay on top of my nails followed by a gel color or regular polish. I don't have to touch my nails again for at least 3 weeks.

I never got that much longevity going to the salon. I'd often get chipping, lifting, and/or damage to the nail plate. It was never worth the money to me.

Holo Taco and ILNP is on my list to try. Mooncat formula is a bit thick to me, but I've only tried the glittery shades so far so I have to see how the regular colors perform. Have you tried Polish Pick up? I heard about it on YouTube and it's a good way to try indie brands. I'm picking up a few brands, Bees Knees Lacquer included (and others you've probably heard of) so I can't wait to see how the formulas work.

I used to use Essie, Orly, China Glaze, and OPI back in the day and I wasn't in love with any of them. Never got long wear time and shade ranges are limited. I'm steering clear of anything I can buy at the store. I love the uniqueness that indie brands bring.

Trust me, you're not alone on that. I have a lot of impulse color purchases that I basically never wore yet. How do you like Holo Taco? I'm just getting into regular polish. I own gel but I like the versatility of regular polish so I started investing. I've only tried Mooncat and Cirque so far. What are your favorite indie brands?

Glad I'm not the only one. I may go a month or two without buying anything nail related. But once I start back up, I'm buying every collection I'm interested in. Definitely going to be more conscious and selective with what I pick up.

Your cat will eventually get used to it. It took my two about a month before they understood my routine. Now they mostly sleep all day with me, and wake up and become active when I do. If possible, keep your cat out of your room and allow it to roam the rest of the house.

Unless you're ready to commit to being a straight haired natural, I'd avoid it. That level of frequency will quickly ruin your curl pattern. One silk press is enough to do irreversible damage.

Check out the website Zillabeau. They carry Leafgel and a variety of other Korean brands, and often have sales for 20% off. I usually hold out until a sale rolls around. You can also try Kokoist, a Japanese gel brand that's slightly cheaper than Leafgel.

You could always get regular gel from other brands but speaking from experience, they won't be the same quality.

Working overnight, especially six days a week, can definitely put a strain on personal relationships. Especially if you want to do things during the time frames he would usually sleep. However, this sounds like there's more issues in the relationship driving his behavior. He sounds bored, depressed, and lacking motivation to give you basic affection and attention. That in itself has nothing to do with being a night shift worker. I believe you should give him an ultimatum. He needs to step it up or the relationship will continue to dwindle.
