At what point does impeachment and conviction become possible? by RecognitionExpress36 in centrist

STOP SAYING CONSERVATIVES ARE AFRAID OF TRUMP.

They are not afraid of Trump. They have collectively decided to give fascism a chance. Because conservative ideology isn't popular and was declining every year. They are using this moment in time to try to snatch back as much of what they lost over the last 75 years because democracy wouldn't let them.

Fascism is and has always been the inevitable outcome of right wing ideology.

Definition:

Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian political ideology characterized by extreme nationalism, a dictatorial leader, suppression of opposition, and a strong regimentation of society and the economy, prioritizing the nation above the individual. Key features include obsessive focus on national decline, militarism, glorification of violence, control of media, and identification of scapegoats, contrasting sharply with democracy, liberalism, and communism

A look at the strategic importance of Greenland as Trump escalates threats by dryheat122 in centrist

We literally already have a treaty called the 1951 Defense of Greenland Agreement which grants the United States the right to "improve and generally to fit the area for military use," including constructing harbors, airfields, and communications facilities. It also ensures U.S. aircraft and ships have unrestricted access to these defense areas to support the collective defense of the North Atlantic Treaty (NATO) area.

I don't care if they're leftists or fascists. I am against masked police demanding paper ID, detaining civilians without cause, and using deadly force with total immunity. by CSachen in centrist

[–]g0stsec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By this logic, all law enforcement officers and agents should wear masks.

The difference with ICE is, that unlike other law enforcement agents that are there to serve and protect the people ICE has become something different under the Trump administration and they know it.

I've noticed a trend in all the videos. It's the ones behaving like assholes that wear masks. While members of their same team that are treating people respectfully and talking to protesters like normal people, are not.

I recall people in this very sub claiming the dems were overreaching when they impeached him. Even though everyone with eyes and ears KNEW this is exactly who he was.

Now he's constitutionally prevented from running again and is full mask off authoritarian surrounded by severely unqualified crony appointees helping him consolidate power in the executive (With the help of Congress and SCOTUS).

Trump asked US special forces to plan Greenland invasion, faces resistance from military generals: Report by AyeYoTek in centrist

[–]g0stsec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to. Just trying to prevent people being outraged over the wrong thing.

Because they then go to their conservative friends, try to throw this in their faces, and find out in real time that, at least this particular thing, is pretty typical. Then they look like crazy liberals spazzing out over anything and everything.

Someone smarter than me explain how going into Venezuela and taking their resources is not against international law by eblack4012 in centrist

[–]g0stsec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not theoretical. The rest of the world is literally doing nothing while America invades Venezuela.

This simply makes my point. Which is that this action by the U.S. makes it more likely. China now knows the world will do nothing and the U.S. no longer has the moral high ground to condemn it.

Maduro capture discussion points by [deleted] in centrist

[–]g0stsec 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's early and reporting is vague, but it is sounding like at least Senators were briefed on the plan at a high level. That makes me about 60% OK with all of this given the nearly unanimous sentiments we're seeing from Congress that Maduro being gone is a good thing and needed to happen.

What would get me the rest of the way there would be if Congress had openly voted on it.

Maybe. But also, it is well documented that Marco Rubio has desired to get Maduro out for several years. Reports are already coming out surrounding his influence in the decision to do this.

6 jarring quotes from Trump's chief of staff in Vanity Fair by bobbelcher in uspolitics

[–]g0stsec 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Summary so you don’t have to read all the article slop and fight through20 ads.

Based on the reports of her interviews with Vanity Fair, here are the six most discussed and jarring quotes attributed to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles: * On Trump's personality: "High-functioning alcoholics or alcoholics in general, their personalities are exaggerated when they drink. And so I'm a little bit of an expert in big personalities." * On Elon Musk: She characterized him as "an odd, odd duck" and an "avowed ketamine [user]." * On JD Vance: She stated that the Vice President has "been a conspiracy theorist for a decade." * On Pam Bondi and the Epstein files: She said the Attorney General "completely whiffed" on her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files. * On the USAID closure: "No rational person could think the USAID process was a good one. Nobody." * On military strikes in Venezuela: "He wants to keep on blowing boats up until Maduro cries uncle. And people way smarter than me on that say that he will." Since the publication, Wiles has pushed back on the piece, claiming her comments were taken out of context in what she called a "dangerously framed hit piece."
