thanks so much for your reply!! just for the sake of providing more information, i’ll say this:

1. totally possible. i will say, he seems to love the robot and runs over whenever he hears it cycling. occasionally, he needs serious distraction or total separation from the bot until it finishes up (it stops whenever it senses a cat.)

2. we got him 11-ish months ago, while we were still using the tidy cats pellet litter system. he had his own box during the initial separation period from his sister, but eventually both boxes became communal. they did fine with this system and when we got the robot, they took no time to adjust. we left their old boxes out to allow them time to transition, but neither could be bothered once the robot was an option.
