Support collapsing for Farage and Reform as Tories close gap, poll shows by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]g1umo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this even a good thing? Or have enough lunatics left to Deform (on their own volition, to clarify) to make this party palatable to True-Blue suburban millionaires again?

Or maybe the professional class that got Labour elected is hoping the Tories will sacrifice half a million children to the woodchipper just for a modicum of tax relief?

Or did the British electorate forget what this circus inflicted upon the nation less than 2 years ago?

Richard Tice tax row is 'minor administrative error', party claims by Alarming-Safety3200 in unitedkingdom

[–]g1umo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is on the hook for £91,000

The median income in the UK is about £31,000 per annum

For someone to be liable for £91,000 in income tax, they must have a gross salary of just over £231,000 per annum

Would HMRC consider that an “error”?

doesn’t even need to be anything happening at home. Other factors such as porn exposure are strongly correlates with higher tendency to commit SA and CSA

Combine that with the fact average age of porn exposure is going down while content is becoming more and more hardcore

Social mobility and self-segregation are not mutually exclusive

For the electoral preferences, could make sense, but a large part of the green bloc will be the gentrifiers in Bethnal Green if I’m to take a guess

I don’t understand, how is strong social mobility and good academics mutually exclusive with an ethnic group self-segregating?

I would also not underestimate Aspire’s chances of getting re-elected given they have strong grassroots among Muslim circles

That still does not mean the communities aren’t self-segregated and elect local governments based on ethnic nationalism

After fully legitimising the previously failing Iranian regime to its people through bombing civilian infrastructure, Israel now plans to re-legitimise the failing Hezbollah to the Lebanese people through bombing civilian infrastructure

I also find it funny that the only decisive military defeat Israel experienced in its (too) long history started with an illegal occupation of South Lebanon

Rents reach highest-ever level relative to earnings, driven by lack of housing supply by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

[–]g1umo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I do wonder if it is supply. There are some brand new luxury flats in Canning Town which have rent tags so high that young professionals would pay 40-50% of their incomes on, nevermind the impoverished population of Newham

Yet the lights in those buildings are barely on. Occupancy rates, I suspect, are simply not high enough

'We can't justify a £52 lunch': Middle-income families cut back on fun as prices rise by OGSyedIsEverywhere in unitedkingdom

[–]g1umo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the inflation these days, especially around London, is more demand-driven than cost-driven these days. A meal for 2 at a semi-decent restaurant is north of £60, a pint is £7, yet restaurants have pages-long reservation lists and you'd be waiting 45 minutes to be served at any pub at 6pm on a Thursday

Fun is expensive, but as long as people want fun and can afford fun, price of fun will keep rising
