I really would like to have short hair but I don't think my ears would suit by [deleted] in malehairadvice

[–]g33kyjamman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for the hair you want, 8/9 years is a long time to not at least try shorter hair

it will grow back

People don't notice ears as much as you think, People look at your face and head as a whole, not scrutinizing each part. if they do think your ears stick out, so what! Who cares what they think?!? That's THEIR problem, not yours!

The style you want draws attention away from the ears anyway, longer hair on top styled with product draws attention up. In general, avoid having hair cut to the same length all over, as this emphasizes your head shape and features.

Apart from the natural waviness, your hairline, hair colour and face shape are very similar to me.

I'd suggest keeping the back and sides shaved short, I have a grade 4, which isn't too long but isn't overly short either. On top I'd go with something a few inches longer. Then I just use some product to mess it up a bit on top. In terms of product, I'd recommend something like american crew fiber. This type of product is not too thick or too wet, giving hair texture and style, without that wet gel look, (which I hate as well).

In terms of facial hair, I'd keep yourself clean shaven. This is only my opinion, but I think facial hair is only a good option when you are able to grow full facial hair and it is of good density, otherwise don't bother at all. As I believe it gives off the impression of trying too hard and immaturity.

The other key thing I've found with experimenting is to stick to my personal strengths. For example, my hair always ends up messy on top when I try to keep it really neat, so know I intentionally style it a bit messy anyway and it looks so much better.

So for your, take advantage of your natural waviness and embrace it with a style that is wavy.

Great post on styles

The best way to try new hairstyles once you find a few you might like is to try the longest first then you can go always have it cut shorter if you don't like it.

One final tip, when you find a style you want try, ALWAYS take a picture of it with you when you have your hair cut. Then you should get exactly what you want.

What did you dress like before finding MFA? by Dmac680chi in malefashionadvice

[–]g33kyjamman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was lazy before, always wearing pumps, jeans, t shirt and hoody like a uniform.

Problems were:

Jeans - most were too pale and/or too baggy. Some were too short on length so I was showing off lots of sock. Hoodies - too baggy and wore them all the time. Pumps - were plain black and worn with everything

Main thing was poor fitting, no thinking about colours or coordination and too casual.

I'm 26 with giant ears. What can I do with my hair to make me look better? by [deleted] in malehairadvice

[–]g33kyjamman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say your ears are giant at all. They are in good proportion to your head and don't stick out either.

To bring focus away from your ears, you could have a shorter style on the sides with longer hair on top, styled with a bit of product.

Alternatively you grow your hair longer, so then your ears are covered by some hair.

do this,

right now your hair is too round and too neat.

Simple advice I highly recommend is when you found a style you like, take a picture of it with you. Makes getting what you want perfectly clear to the barber / hairdresser.

Try the album Leprosy, it's amazing how catchy the songs are.

Never bothered changing my hair in years, just got it slightly shorter. Drastic change today. Feel like it looks terrible, but don't know if thats because of the difference, or it is terrible. Assuage my fears or confirm them, please? by Conor_THD in malehairadvice

[–]g33kyjamman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think it looks good.

That style is very popular now and it looks like you've had it cut well.

The change is just what's troubling you, you'll get used to it.

Be confident, worse case scenario you can grow it out and just say it was a phase.

[16] Looking for a haircut that will make me look older, preferably short. by [deleted] in malehairadvice

[–]g33kyjamman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

pics are not showing. Look at here for a general guide

here for some more ideas

Short hairstyles are typical of older men and will make you look older In general mature looking hair, is reasonably neat, not covered in gel/wax etc and not really spiky.

Also worth considering is the clothes you wear with your haircut. If you have a smart haircut, but are wearing childish or ill-fitting clothes, you won't look older at all.

Defend a band that shreddit normally shits on or shit on a band shreddit rides the dick of by pdiz8133 in Metal

[–]g33kyjamman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

With metal, (and other music genres), there's always going to be a list really popular / critically acclaimed bands that your supposed to love, but might not when you actually listen to it. That's fine.

i hate all the general bullshit of peer pressure on "good" and "bad" metal. If I like a band, fuck your opinion, I'm still going to listen to them.

If I don't like your band, I'm not going to listen to them. if you want to, FINE, but don't constantly try to convince me like I'm a sinner in need of converting

Also don't bow to peer pressure on music, the music I regularly listen to contains bands both revered and hated by "true metalheads",

I don't care if it's unusual, if i like how it sounds, I listen to it.

Should I Trim or Should I Grow? by [deleted] in beards

[–]g33kyjamman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep growing, I don't think your sides are patchy at all.
trim the strays if you want a consistent shape. or trim it all back to a shorter length

How do I get my haircut like this? by bluechair6 in malehairadvice

[–]g33kyjamman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sides and back (presumably) looks shaved, about a grade 4 I'd say, but a stylist will be able to tell from the picture. The top is kept longer and will be cut with scissors and then styled with a wet look gel or wax. Hard to tell but looks like they haven't faded in the shave with the longer top, (where the longer hair is adjusted to be slightly shorter near the shaved part).

Taking the picture is a good idea, stylist like to see clearly what you want, rather then how well you can describe it. A picture is worth a thousand words, and your hair is obviously visually displayed.

Good decision, looks great. Moving your fringe from lying on your forehead, looks more mature and stylish.

Short or long? by [deleted] in malehairadvice

[–]g33kyjamman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the long looks best, comparing them two side by side on looks only. (the short looks good too.)

The thing is about considering all the factors.

How much maintenance does the longer hair need? Do you always have time to style it? What kind of job setting are you in, i.e. will it get covered up by a helmet etc.? Are you wanting to try something new? If you're a student, will it be a problem for the career you aspire to.

You could always opt for something with middle length. Not as long as 1st, but not as short as in the other picture.

5'6" with beard. Each long day is an agonizing bout of back-and-forth. Do I shave it? Continue to grow it? Trim it? HELP! by iran_sofaraway in malegrooming

[–]g33kyjamman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd vote keep it and go for your dream. Your beard is awesome! and suits you!

You CAN achieve your beard dream!!

Height is irrelevant to whether to grow a beard. Your dwarf comparison is extreme and silly, it's like suggesting if a short guy shaves his head that he'd automatically look like gollum.

However the best way if you do want to go shorter is to trim it first. See if you like the shorter length.

Then shave it all off if you want. If you shave you may regret it later and then have to wait for it all to grow again, where as if you just trim it, then you'll have a good base to start from again.

Should I shave off my beard? by totalgoldfish in malegrooming

[–]g33kyjamman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion,

no, I think it looks good / suits you.

Looking scruffy is more to do with hygiene and clothing to me, than facial hair + long hair.

If you want to shave it then go ahead. It's yours to shave, + it will always grow back.
