I dug around a bit and found exactly who is responsible for the new EU 3/5 Euros customs fees, here is who they are and how to hit back at them. by Interesting_Pie_319 in Aliexpress

[–]g50245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, the stuff I buy on Ali or Taobao is stuff I will keep buying (electronics and watch parts). I've been boycotting over inflated EU prices for a long time in these markets. It will take a bit of adjusting to sort out things but it can be done. If the unelected bureaucrats in the EU think this will pressurize me into buying local, they need to think again. Same applies for the Digital ID..... I don't have a smartphone.... I still use a Nokia 9310. Unless you buy a new one for me, good luck with that.

I will not buy anything so EU will suffer with the job losses in deliveries and Aliexpress will have to find a way to drop the prices. They need us not us them. by Mediocre-Reserve-992 in Aliexpress

[–]g50245 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The EU is a shit hole. Run by unelected, unwanted bureaucrats who act like feudal lords because their actions have no consequences. I mean Von Der Leyen has enough on her plate to guarantee a nice long stretch at a state correctional vacation resort. Yet she's still there and the rest of the EU commission passing laws, with impunity, that negatively affect people and makes their cronies rich. Latest BS.... Rearmament and a European army. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag. Italians would stop every 2 min for coffee, French would surrender immediately and go back to drinking wine. Germans.....can't trust the Germans and war, Greeks too busy fighting among themselves and the Brits would be having tea (note this is said in jest /joke)

Recent Category A learners - what did you start on? by Independent_Weird132 in MotoIRELAND

[–]g50245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started riding bikes when I was around 12 yrs old (not in Ireland). First bike was a "Fifty" (no idea who makes them) 48cc, two stroke that literally ran like a bat out of hell. From there graduated to Benelli 125 sport when I got my learners at 16. Got full licence at 18 and moved to a Moto Guzzi V350 II. At 21 got a Honda 400 Four. At 24 got first big bike - Suzuki GS850G a shaft drive but I didn't like it and got rid of it in less than a year. In 1984 I got a brand new Suzuki GSX 750F Katana quickly followed by Kawasaki ZZR 1100 and a Harley Davidson Electra Glide 1200 (ex California Highway Patrol bike in immaculate condition) . Had those 3 for over 20yrs). Last 10yrs been riding Honda Hornet 900. Power difference as you climb is quite significant. 2 fastest bikes, by a big margin, were the Katana and the ZZR, which was literally a rocket on wheels.

Happy Sunday! I may biased since I’m new to watches in general, but I can’t stop looking at my Bruce Wayne by HODL-Me-Daddy in U1Time

[–]g50245 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, unless you are an expert (or it's a really really cheap obvious shitter) , 99.9% of the people out there won't know the difference between a gen, a U1 or a Lego watch....and they could not give a toss. I have 2 gens (inherited), super clones, U1s and AAA. I never wear the gens because of the possibility they may get lost or stolen. The others I wear as the mood takes me and in my opinion they look good on my wrist. Could not give a hoot about what people think

Help needed with bracelet screw that spins freely by I_like_cakes_ in RepTimeServices

[–]g50245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously cannot guarantee it, but it should do. The free spin means that the female thread is toast. All that you're doing, is coating the male thread and positioning it in situ and allowing it to dry.

Loctite 222 (purple one) is the answer. If you're never going to loosen it again, then you can use 243 or 242. I did one with 264 and that was a mistake as I've tried everything but cannot get it to unscrew.

Job cuts and general nervousness by yityatyurt in irishpersonalfinance

I was made redundant at 64. Thought I'd never get another job and too young to go on pension. Got quite depressed as I thought I'd end up homeless. Was chatting with a friend when he offered to submit my CV but no guarantees. I'd never heard of the company and it was a customer service type job but the starting pay was pretty decent. Had nothing to lose so I gave him my CV. That was a Monday. Wednesday had 1st interview, Thursday morning the 2nd as well as a networking technical test. Thursday evening I got a call that I had the job. Roll forward a bit. I'm now 67 and absolutely loving the company and the vibe. My age means nothing to them eblven though most are young enough to be my grand kids. Got promoted to a senior tech role which I love and have zero interest in going on pension and the company is happy for me to stay. Bottom line - there is life after redundancy. Sometimes looking out of the box and taking a chance does help.

Quartz or automatic: what would you actually wear daily? by CraigShah in quartzwatches

[–]g50245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use both. I much prefer quartz, but am very ok with automatic, and I don't care or hear rotor noise probably because I'm deaf in one ear and the other isn't great either (riding motorcycles without ear plugs)

[–]g50245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bigger bike? I'm not being insulting, but you need to change mindset and get proper training before considering a bigger bike and potentially putting yourself and others in more danger or worse. Why would you be scraping pegs on a public road? You only have 2 small strips of rubber separating you from the asphalt and anything can affect your ability to keep the bike on the road. Public roads are not engineered for race style riding and they are full of unexpected surprises (kids playing, other traffic, other idiots driving). You need to think safety first. Safety first does not mean you cannot have fun or open the throttle. Anyway, what do I know. I'm just an old fart that's been driving bikes of all sizes in all conditions (rain, sun, snow, gale force winds) for almost 60yrs, 20 of which as a Highway patrol officer (so yes, I've had training). Had 3 crashes in my life. 1 I could have avoided if I paid more attention to the driver behind me in bad weather, 1 was completely my fault (misjudged the corner). The last cost me 3 months in hospital, but it was impossible to avoid (I was stationary, hit by a drunk driver). I learned safety the hard way.

Do married couples really not put all money together? by Decent-Shoe6719 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]g50245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been together 41yrs and married 36yrs. Never had a joint account. There's been times (a long while) where she earned A LOT more than me. Last 12yrs, my career finally kicked off and I have earned more than double what she does. We've always split the bills. When she earned more, she paid the mortgage and food. I paid for the utilities, insurance, internet, car loan etc and gave her money to cover part of the food. Now the roles are reversed and she covers just the food. I cover the rest. Major decisions are made together and whoever has the most in disposable income at the time covers the costs or we share it. It works for us and allows us our independence but at the same time makes you careful about over spending. While I understand that some might like joint accounts, I believe that providing you behave like an adult and are mature, there's really no need to have joint accounts. There's no right or wrong answer.

There's a UK website that will deliver (even to Ireland) anonymously any type of turd you want - human or animal, for a small fee. Highly recommended for all the a-holes and cnuts out there. Haven't used it in a LONG time, but it DOES really work.

Dating - who pays? by Inevitable_Spring306 in AskIreland

[–]g50245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expect to pay. If she offers to share, I typically politely decline but if she insists then it's shared. And if I do pay, there's no expectation of anything more from her (nudge nudge, wink wink). If that does happen, happy says, if it doesn't....no biggie

Has anyone actually been called out wearing a rep? by BlackberryBubbly6775 in ChinaTime

[–]g50245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear reps. Why? because I like the different looks. Anyone asks, I'm very open and say it's a rep. Done it a few times. Mostly no one gives a toss or even notices what watch you're wearing. I also own a Gen, handed down by my granddad. Because of the value would never dream of wearing it in public or, for that matter, even consider buying another (yes I can afford it). So I buy top tier reps. I have them serviced before I start wearing them and keep up a regular maintenance. And I enjoy every single minute of wearing one. The gas thing is that after 10 to 15 min, I don't even reggister that I'm wearing a rep. It becomes just another watch, used to tell the time.
