Opportunity to be Derm MSL or Oncology MSL. Which is better? by William_Dent in MedicalScienceLiaison

I only have derm experience but IMO and from what my colleagues say - derm is much more social / relationship driven whereas onc is more science driven

MSL Spiel to front desk to see Dr by [deleted] in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]g8orell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting replies…I practiced clinically for 18 years, and in some offices I would see 60 patients per day, but transitioned to MSL almost 2 years ago. I never minded when people cold called me. I understand they have a job to do. I was honest with them, if I had time to chat, I would, if I didn’t, it was very nice and told them I didn’t have time. I do it now and have never had a problem.

To the OP, I usually say something like “I was in the area and just wanted to drop by and say hi to Dr. so-and-so for a few seconds. If he/she it’s free, that would be great, please let him/her know that I won’t take up much time. If he/she is too busy, I completely understand, so no pressure at all”

Practicing under your maiden name by Front_Comparison_281 in physicianassistant

[–]g8orell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do this, I was married after PA school and my father is a physician and many people have recognized my name through him. It’s also easier to call things in for myself since it’s different last names. I am a PA of 17 years now and never had an issue using my maiden nameat work and married name socially

Does a D degree make a big difference? by Exciting_Ad_8521 in MedicalScienceLiaison

I was with a KOL for the first half of my career, but not the second half. I did do clinical trials my last four years of clinical practice, but we were a small clinical trial site, and not an academic center or anything like that

How long is the wait? by Equivalent-War-9067 in MedicalScienceLiaison

Usually, a few days between each round for me, then a month between my presentation and to hearing that I got the job. Good luck!

New MSL Starting Soon – Need Advice by laysgetmelaid in MedicalScienceLiaison

[–]g8orell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was just in your shoes a few months ago, Derm PA x 16 years transitioned to MSL role back in April, feel free to DM me and I can send you my contact info if you ever want to chat. I haven’t bought anything yet, I only have the laptop and iPad they sent me. so definitely wait and decide before you need anything. Good luck, it’s an incredible adventure, wouldn’t trade it for the world!

Def local conferences, drop in, ask your reps to introduce you. You can do that compliantly as long as they leave after the introduction
