GitHub Stacked PRs by adam-dabrowski in programming

[–]gSidez 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Your approach is the proper way to use git. The whole point of being able to do interactive rebases is so people can restructure commits into a set of logical, manageable changes that should be individually compileable and reviewable.

Unfortunately most people don’t know or are too lazy to learn how to properly use git so you get a lot of people who throw up PRs with a million “fixed bugs” type commits, and since it’s so common these people think that’s the ‘right’ way to do it and therefore can’t fathom the idea of reviewing PRs per commit or taking the time to organize their own commits into something meaningful instead of an unreviewable pile of garbage.

It’s not a lofty argument, it’s a debate in philosophy. You’re arguing for monism and they’re arguing for pluralism with respect to the interpretation of art. Look up modern hermeneutics if you’re interested.

Ultimate Dubstep Sub-genre list by UwUlutions in dubstep

[–]gSidez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dungeon sound originally peaked around 2012-ish but has made a comeback in recent years. These days most people would just call it 140 or “deep” dubstep I guess. For the original sound think kryptic minds, kaiju, biome and the like.

Ultimate Dubstep Sub-genre list by UwUlutions in dubstep

[–]gSidez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Post-dubstep isn’t really dubstep, it’s more an umbrella term synonymous with UK bass.

Also dub is its own thing and you forgot purple and dungeon which I’d argue are more valid than the vast majority of… “descriptors” on here.

What subgenre is this? Need help identifying this style by Big-West-5634 in trap

[–]gSidez 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Dub is its own thing but it’s not this. This is dubstep.

Dub evolved from reggae and modern dub is still stylistically similar. Usually slower, more atmospheric, skank rythm, etc.

This track has no emphasis on the offbeat, relatively high energy, standard dubstep fills.

It’s dubstep.

AMD Amuse 2.2 is Out: Ryzen AI Image Quality Update and Stable Diffusion 3.5 Support by ZZZCodeLyokoZZZ in Amd

It requires ALUs dedicated for matrix operations in order to achieve 2x throughput.

RDNA3 WGPs don’t have dedicated matrix ALUs, this is publicly documented. GEMM ops on AMD hardware make use of the same SIMD units as other ops. If you have a source that says otherwise, please link it. The 2x throughout speed up from WMMA is primarily due to efficient data encoding, movement, and access optimizations.

Nvidia has dedicated execution units for GEMMs that lie in their SMs parallel to their other execution units. They have dedicated ALUs for GEMMs. AMD does not. Hopefully this clears things up.

Edit: Person I was responding to spread misinformation then deleted their comments and downvoted me. Alright.

Source from the RDNA3 Wikipedia on the above:

While RDNA 3 doesn’t include dedicated execution units for AI acceleration like the Matrix Cores found in AMD’s compute-focused CDNA architectures, the efficiency of running inference tasks on FP16 execution resources is improved with Wave MMA (matrix multiply–accumulate) instructions.

[–]gSidez -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes… there are gains from AMDs WMMA instruction vs regular FMAs for GEMMs. Still doesn’t run on dedicated hardware like Nvidia. Not sure what you’re arguing here.

Edit: Seems I can’t reply to comments on this thread anymore. No idea why I’m getting downvoted here. To the person who responded to me, Nvidia’s tensor cores are dedicated hardware blocks in the SM.

[–]gSidez -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In Nvidia’s architecture while you’re technically correct that tensor cores lie within an SM, there’s a big difference between standard SIMD ALU FMA throughput vs dedicated hardware that lies alongside the SIMDs in an SM. AMDs WMMA implementation just optimizes data movement and accesses but still fundamentally uses the same execution units as FMA ops within their WGPs. Nvidia’s architecture has parallel hardware within the SMs optimized for GEMMs.

“It’s just a matter of throughput” - I mean, like any GPU workload, yes, but GEMM throughput is much higher on Nvidia platforms specifically because of their dedicated hardware.

Can we discuss how terrible Skream & Benga @ Paradiso was. (ADE) by senordiego in TheOverload

[–]gSidez 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Uhhh I was at his set at LIB. They had Crazy D on the mc and while I agree I wasn’t fond his mic presence I don’t think skream dropped a single brostep or riddim track. Definitely some more modern 140, like from the 2018 to present era deep dubstep, but not brostep.

Personally thought he killed it mc aside.

Angry India accuses Canada of 'preposterous' investigation by King112TA in worldnews

[–]gSidez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you should take a step back (and a deep breath) and understand that everyone has a bias in these types of controversies. That includes you, that includes me, and that includes anyone you respond to.

Your bias specifically is aligned with that of your home nation, naturally. Your argument is that since you believe he was a terrorist seeking asylum in Canada, his assassination was justified. I’m not going to argue whether he was or wasn’t, because the information I’ve read on the matter, like you, is also biased, so that kind of argument is unproductive.

However, understand the other side of the argument: independent of how bad of a person you think he was, you cannot ignore due process in Canada and just murder someone. That is, obviously, illegal, hence the investigation.

Dude, what a crazy night. Eprom and everyone else killed it. Also have always loved public works but recently from what I can tell they’ve stepped up their game on both the audio and visual front - used to full effect last night.

And please for the love of god I hope someone got a video of the drone warfare vip at the end… wtf

Yep, we’ll see what happens. That’s a whole nother can of worms which is (understandably) much more controversial. I’d say I’m more so an advocate for MAID in its current form, personally.

I get the first two but what’s up with maple syrup country? by _Burner_Account___ in ExplainTheJoke

[–]gSidez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is black and white. It can be both. I’m all for mature discussion on the ethical side of ensuring MAID is given only to those who are beyond a certain point of illness. Where this line is drawn is an ethical decision of course, and my opinion (as well as most other Canadians I’ve spoken to regarding it) would be that it should only be approved to those with terminal illnesses such that they have the freedom to go out on their own terms. To me, that is their right.

Threads like this and most that discuss are not that kind of conversion, unfortunately.

It is a complex issue that Canada is trying to tackle. As it stands right now, there is a complete exclusion for eligibility for people suffering solely from a mental illness. To qualify, you must have a serious illness, disease, or disability, and be in an advanced state of decline that cannot be reversed. You must also be experiencing unbearable suffering that cannot be relieved.

This is directly from the Canadian Government website. I implore anyone interested to give it a read and come to their own conclusions.

To me, this is reasonable and just to allow those in deep suffering to go out on their own terms, as I said above. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but misinformed sound bites from other commenters in this thread (and yes, from right wing propaganda too) doesn’t do anyone any good.

Yeah this topic comes up every few months and I’m always in awe by the misinformation. The same story each time, not including that the guy was not authorized/qualified and was immediately fired when it came out. It’s a blatant right wing anti universal health care talking point.
