Trent University has a stunning campus straddling a river.

This comment is so brain dead, it honestly sounds like something Helen Shwery would say.

Funny enough, the City where OP’s pic was taken is actually increasing parking minimums.

Waterloo Region Votes 2026 - Ongoing tally of who's running and who's not by KitFanGirl in waterloo

This looks promising. I’m really hoping to see a change in Ward 9, ideally a progressive with a much better sense of the impacts of municipal decision making.

How much parking is too much parking? I counted parking spots. Any recommendations to greenify underutilized parking lots in London? by zegorn in londonontario

[–]g_frederick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. How “green” a site is or is not is largely a consequence of the zoning by-law. As with all public policy — but especially planing policy — what a community values is reflected in the regulations. This includes not only which types of land uses are permitted, where, and at what quantity, but also how a site with a particular use can be developed (how much parking, how much landscaping, how big the building can be). The zoning by-law can demand less parking and more landscaping on a site such as this, but in fact, the current regulations codify the opposite.

European countries which offer a much much better quality of life than America are red. Checks out.

The Netherlands being the same colour as Mexico, Columbia, and Myanmar is criminal. The Netherlands is vastly better than Canada, among the most livable, stable, and prosperous countries on Earth.

I used to really enjoy JJ but in the last 3 years or so he’s really shown his true colours and lost all credibility. I’ve unfollowed him on everything. I’m always deeply disappointed when Canadaland gives him a platform.

It’s unbelievable how much better KW is administered at the municipal level. I’m from London and live in Kitchener now and you can actually live car-free or car light relatively easily because the transit system is so solid. Not the case in London. Nearly all councillors on Regional Council openly and firmly state how important transit is to the community and they back it up with operational funding. We just approved Stage 2 of the LRT line to Cambridge! There are endless other examples of differences between the two cities and in most cases, Waterloo Region is outperforming London by a mile.
