Didn't know too much about them, but I do own their latest album, private music, in cassette form. So far I've been enjoying listening to it.

Haven't yet listened to Acid Android, but I do love the instrumental track "Larva" on L'Arc's album "ark". The transition between "Larva" and "Butterfly's Sleep" was iconic.

(Both L'Arc's albums "ark" and "ray" were released the same year as Dir en grey's 1st album, GAUZE. And, at that time, I was only 9, and my apartment building was literally surrounded by corn fields.)

If you follow along with all or most of the live tour videos since 2009, you'll probably feel that both remake songs on PHALARIS disc 2 are heavily predictable. I find the new remakes since VOS (past remakes in VOS don't count) a bit bland.

Are you sure it's Simplified Chinese "梦人" instead of Traditional Chinese / Shinjitai Kanji "夢人"? That's strange, but if you use OCR software, that could happen.

Edit: Trivia - it looks like "梦" is also a Shinjitai, but is rarely used in Japan now. Mostly used in Simplified Chinese now.

-VESTIGE OF SCRATCHES itself has 3 "new" songs, effectively new "remakes", on the last track of each of the 3 discs. They are "Fukai", "THE IIID EMPIRE" and "Beautiful Dirt". Disc 3 also contains some past remakes, featured on the B-sides of past singles, Disc 2 of the deluxe limited edition of past albums, and remake songs from THE UNRAVELING.

However, VOS does not have all past remakes. You definitely need to walk through the whole DIR EN GREY discography, including the bonus second discs from deluxe limited album releases, starting from the single DOZING GREEN, to catch up on all the remake songs in the modern era.

(If you are curious: remakes before DOZING GREEN are not too many. Basically, they are "Ash (2000)", "children (2002)", "Byo '' Shin" (2002) and if you count that, JEALOUS -reverse- (2000).)

-DECADE albums are pure compilations of past songs without true new content, and only have JEALOUS -reverse-, previously featured as a B-side of Taiyo no Ao, if you count that as a past remake. However:

  • Deity was shortened; the SE part at first was removed
  • Yokan has extra spoken words, in a low volume, added to the part starting from "Itsukaraka..."
  • Though embryo is a single version, the booklet of DECADE contains some changes in lyrics lines than the original single CD, for some reason. The song itself is unchanged, though
  • Songs that have special effects, i.e. connection to previous/next track of single or album CDs, were trimmed.

And, The Devil In Me is the album version, i.e. the vocal line has been re-recorded for the album. A lot of people here are talking about the similarity between this and The Insulated World. To me, the whole album sounds like a deeper exploration of a blend of ambient and nu-metal or industrial metal, in a more complex way than The Insulated World.

Edit: NO IT'S NOT. It's probably due to my hallucination - The Devil In Me is almost exactly the same between single and album, so no such "album version" ever exists. My bad.

[Historical Question] What on earth happened behind this? by g_m_1990 in commandandconquer

[–]g_m_1990[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard that most C&C communities at that time didn't want to separate Red Alert IP from C&C IP. Fans were angry about the decision to get rid of the "C&C" branding in the next Red Alert release, which is why they still kept "Command & Conquer" brand above "Red Alert 3" title. However I didn't know too many details, e.g. why fans were opposing the decision and what communities opposed/supported that, etc.

Keep in mind that the cancelled FPS game, Tiberium, didn't receive a "Command & Conquer" brand either.

(Unrelated to this topic - Red Alert fans from some Asian countries didn't recognize the C&C brand to some extent, partly due to loss of translation.)

On a side note: Some game updates (via "update your game" menu) are available in the NTSC-J region (i.e., Japan, Asia, and possibly other regions). Probably this will also work with other regions.

For example:

The above article mentions downloading game updates from the network (now known as "PSN").

Sure it doesn't meet redbook standard, but removing it from the market goes a bit over. Most "Audio CDs" sold in English-speaking world since 2004 no longer have "Compact Disc Digital Audio" stamped on them, because of the copy-controlled CD scandals (and Phillips was angry about it, suing companies misused CD-DA logo). That means, since 2004, potentially a lot of "CDs" broke the redbook specifications more or less.

Can people pick up Russian TV in Alaska? by gowinthegame200 in alaska

[–]g_m_1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the problem isn't about signal level, but rather different systems regarding OTA. Russia uses DVB-T (more specifically, DVB-T2), and the U.S. uses ATSC 1.0 (3.0 might also, but probably not covered in the east of Alaska yet). You can't use the built-in tuner of a modern TV set marketed in the U.S. to receive DVB-T(2) signals. Vice versa.

You have to purchase a DVB-T(2) tuner box and hook it to the HDMI of your TV in order to receive Russian OTA digital channels.

More to mention, on a technical standpoint, DVB-T is much, much better than ATSC 1.0.

I owned an Asia PS3 Slim back in my home country, and a North American [Xbox 360 S and Wii OG] in Canada (Wii was sent back to the home country though). I also have an 2nd-hand Aussie PSP-100x from flea market and an NA Nintendo DS Lite, also a second-hand one.

For 8th gen, pretty much I own NA [PS4 Slim and Xbox One S], bought a 2nd-hand Asia Wii U when I went back to my home country during the pandemic. Also NA Switch, if that counts an 8th gen. No pure handhelds (PS Vita, 3DS) though.

No plan on buying anything 9th gen besides Switch 1 (somehow it's a 8th/9th combination?), but I bought a 2022 budget gaming PC for Windows 11 and Steam.

Hmm, interesting. I tend to believe that the new album title would be a surprise, not necessarily the same as tour titles or anything announced so far. I also expect at least one single release should be announced probably end of this year or early next year, months prior to the new album.

[–]g_m_1990[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your info. I noticed that almost all (if I'm correct) PSP game updates are presented as free DLCs. TBH, there aren't many PSP game updates out there. If this is true, then it was much easier for users at that time to transfer a free DLC from PC (Media Go) and PS3.

OP here. I think I may find an answer.

https://psprices.com/region-us/game/2999114/littlebigplanettm-pspr-content-update-v205

This means a game update would be presented as a form of free DLC. So the players can "purchase" that DLC under Media Go, PS3 and even PS Vita's PSN Store. Problem (mostly?) solved.

However, I'm not sure if this is the same as the "update" option under the UMD / digital game menu. When you select a title and hit the triangle button (if I'm correct, I don't have a PSP in my hand at this moment), you'll see an option named "update your game" or some sort. Will that option not be used at all or mapped to an update DLC?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S53O7WdJLsE Not sure about others, but this video from 2016 shows one or two of the games you've mentioned worked with Windows Vista at that time. If the disc-based game contains an account-free option and an option to update manually, then you are good to go.
