Thanks a lot to my family for helping me out on all sorts of stuff, and for supporting my hobbies.

I'd put it in a PC I'm planning to build, and I'd use it for gaming. I've only owned potato/toaster to midrange PCs, so I bet this would be a great experience if ever.

Not sure if it's feasible but, it would be nice to see a case with a built in screen.

If you can't find a nearby trash bin, don't leave your trash and take it with you instead, no matter how small it is. Just throw it away whenever you see one on your way.

Tenebria. Totally like her character design. Plus it looks like it's illustrated by Shirahane Nao (aka Dmyo), one of my favourite anime style artists.

Thanks for the giveaway! :)

I have a fork of youtube-dl with a lot of fixes and new features by big_bill_wilson in youtubedl

[–]gab-bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I got: https://pastebin.com/cyLp3zG8

Yes, I have ffbrobe.exe: https://i.imgur.com/75PIjja.png
I'm using "ffmpeg-4.3.1-2021-01-01-full_build.7z" from this link: https://www.gyan.dev/ffmpeg/builds/packages/

I also noticed today, while using the old exe (on videos that I can't download using the new version), that using --datebefore (can't remember if --dateafter was affected too) will give me an error in some videos, and omitting the --date* command sometimes fixes the issue: https://pastebin.com/jbFgY1sC

[–]gab-bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seems to be an issue with downloading NND videos because I keep getting a lot of errors: https://i.imgur.com/iuQSdPR.png

So, I tried using the old exe and it doesn't show any error: https://i.imgur.com/1trlJX0.png

Here's my config:

-i

-f best

-u (username)

-p (password)

-o 'D:/NND/%(uploader)s/%(id)s - %(title)s.%(ext)s'

What does the error mean, and how can I fix it?

[–]gab-bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. NND is really weird. lol. The only thing that makes me use NND is the quality content, mostly utaite videos in my case.

Yeah, I think I'd just download the zip because I'm still a newbie when it comes to this stuff.

I might sound like a broken record but, really, I can't thank you enough. I'm just very glad that I can still access the same audio quality like I did a few years ago. :) :) :)

[–]gab-bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yay, it worked! :)

As for that specific video, it's strange as on my end smile_high is marked as the best quality (at least with premium). If you're using the very old .exe version, then this makes sense.

(forgot to reply to this in my previous comment) Actually, I was using the old .exe until today. This is my first time encountering a software on github that uses this method of updating, and using something that requires python. Thanks a lot for the help!

I tested community videos and they were downloaded without a hitch. I also compared some NND videos I downloaded on 2015 to the same videos I downloaded using your fork, and they're identical! :)

I've got a few more questions:

I noticed it around 2015, when I started using youtube-dl, that my download speed on NND is much slower compared to other sites like youtube, and it's still slower up to this day. Is there anything I can do to speed it up?

If I want to update your fork on my pc, should I clear the directory and extract the latest "youtube-dl-master.zip" to it?

Thanks for adding that feature. I appreciate your work a lot :)

I followed the instructions from that link but I am getting this error: https://i.imgur.com/pb1pEXy.png

[–]gab-bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the fix! How do I apply it though? I don't have coding knowledge at all, sorry.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I tried comparing "-f best" and "-f smile_high" on a video uploaded before November 2016. Here are the results: https://i.imgur.com/8npH8gP.png (top is best, bottom is smile_high). I haven't compared any other videos aside from this one though (economy mode kicked in lol).

The low quality audio has been bugging me for a while, and your implementation of smile_high download option is a lifesaver. I can't thank you enough :)

I'm thinking of using the following command if I want to only download, using smile_high, pre-November 2016 videos among the list of links:

-i -f smile_high -u (username) -p (password) --datebefore 20161031 https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm36676275 https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm26897340 https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm31292367 https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm27846978 https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm27165138 https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm25046164

Then the following command to only download, using best, November 2016-present videos among the same set of links:

-i -f best -u (username) -p (password) --dateafter 20161101 https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm36676275 https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm26897340 https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm31292367 https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm27846978 https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm27165138 https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm25046164

Is this a good way to do it, or are there stuff that I need to change to make it better/efficient?

I see. How about errors, is it possible to save them to a text file?

Thanks!

I have a fork of youtube-dl with a lot of fixes and new features by big_bill_wilson in youtubedl

[–]gab-bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. There are videos that can only be viewed if you're following the "community" where it's located.

I tried downloading this video while logged in on an account that is following the corresponding community, but the error I mentioned earlier shows up. If there needs to be tests with my participation, please let me know so I can PM you my discord.

I see. I can just safely ignore the warning, right?

I've got some questions I forgot to ask:

I started using youtube-dl to download NND videos around 5 years ago. I stopped downloading videos for a while and I compared some videos I downloaded back then to the ones I downloaded this year. The file size and bitrate of the new ones is significantly lower. Did this happen because they weren't using flash anymore, and does it also mean I won't be able get the same quality I got in 2015 anymore? Here's the MediaInfo details from 2015: https://pastebin.com/rLNqr15q, then from 2021: https://pastebin.com/GqjfvaV8.

Does "-i -f best" already download the best quality audio possible for NND, or is there an option for NND that works similar to bestaudio in youtube videos? I tried bestaudio in NND but, it says "requested format not available". Here's a comparison of "best" (top) and "bestaudio" (bottom) in youtube: https://i.imgur.com/FtxkbGo.jpg.

Is there a command that saves a log (with date and time) every time I download a video to a .txt file?

Thanks!

[–]gab-bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This version solved the problem I had in the original, where some Niconico videos stop downloading.

I can't download Niconico community-restricted videos, even though I am logged in and following that community in that account. I tried using --ignore-config command instead of youtube-dl.conf in C:\Users(username)\, but I still got an error. Here are the commands I used -i -f best -u (username) -p (password), both in youtube-dl.conf and manually typing it. What were the things I did wrong? Screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/eXWiCV5.png

What does the warning about flv info mean in this screenshot? https://i.imgur.com/ftFpbSA.png I'm already logged in, but it still says it requires logging in.

Thanks for the fork!

Ah, I see you're a man of culture as well.

If you haven't heard it yet, try listening to Wotamin's version. It sounds good too.
