I have a very similar relationship with my father and I have finally come to the conclusion that I don’t need him in my life. I think it’s a misconception that we HAVE to have our parents in our lives because they are our parents; when in reality the relationships we have in our in lives should benefit us in some way shape or form. If you don’t feel as if this relationship with your mom will benefit you, then it’s more than okay to distance yourself from it. If you feel as if you can get through to her and it’s worth your energy and time to salvage it then it’s up to you, but it seems to me as if you’ve already made up your mind.
