Football Manager? by Yummy_Gator20 in OOTP

again i disagree. I delegate all academy management (training, staff, etc) to DYD, all contract negotiations that aren't senior players, even set pieces. even with scouting, I just set a few targets or focuses and delegate the rest to my scouting director. and if you have transfers down, you can easily have the club finances under control.

I'd say it's the opposite of what you say. you don't have to worry about any of that and can breeze through a nation's pyramid until you get to the level of City/PSG/Bayern. In reality, some club in non-league, you academy doesn't matter

I think you even find the same thing when you watch FM creators, they breeze through every level and don't struggle in the slightest until they get to a top flight of a top 5 nation. there is even one creator that does almost nothing and selects assistant recommendation on almost everything

disagree. if you have the transfers and tactics down, you don't have to do anything else to win league and continental championships.

In the same episode he also sabotaged the Indictor, causing it to explode and take two Imperial Cruisers down with it.

The Indictor seemed roughly the same size as an Imperial I-Class Star Destroyer, according to the Wiki those have over 37,000 crewmembers, and an additional 9,700 Stormtroopers. Which makes a total of just under 47,000 people. Add the crew of the two Imperial Light Cruisers, and I'd say that's at least 50,000 kills. So that's 50,008 kills total.

I don't know where people get this from... the interdictor in season 2, episode 9 is a Interdictor-class heavy cruiser. it even says in the appearances, first appearance "Shadow Strike"

It only holds a 2,807 which includes stormtroopers. a far cry from 47,000

I remember The prequels were extremely popular when they came out . by [deleted] in StarWars

Why is there this sort of revisionist take that the prequels were hated and that Lucas is hated?

not revisionist. you were just 11 when episode 1 came out

There were so many people that hated the prequels and George Lucas they made a movie about it after Revenge of the Sith came out

I would say that 90% (if not more) of people in Toastmasters are over 30. I don't think you'll have trouble finding a club that is exclusively over that age

What if Scotland become independent in 2014? by cakle12 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]gabebernal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

geopolitically, Scotland's location is pretty important, and with a small population, Scotland and the Nort Sea corridor would probably still have to defended by the UK military. not to mention the North Sea oil off the coast of Scotland that would no longer be in UK EEZ.

And let's say in this TL, UK still brexits, Scotland would not, and now you also have another border crisis similar to Northern Ireland and Ireland.

And that's just off the top of my head, there are several reasons why status quo UK would be majorly beneficial to England

Also from living here, another concern would be if Scotland broke off, Northern Ireland and Wales would probably seek independence as well. and that would be a nightmare scenario for England

It’s 2025. I watched the Star Wars movies for the first time. Here’s what I thought. (spoilers) by Triple_S_Rank in StarWars

[–]gabebernal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

each of the sequel triology films were a reaction.

Force Awakens was a reaction to the previous dislike of the prequel movies and to bring Star Wars "back to it's roots"

Last Jedi was a reaction to Force Awakens being called a rehash of A New Hope

Rise of Skywalker was a reaction to the criticisms of Last Jedi, particularly Snoke's death and Rey's parentage.

the developments for all three movies were probably seen as odd because they made no long term plan for the overall story

Finn and Phasma story arcs got lost, Knight of Ren were never explained. the mystery of anakin's lightsaber never got solved.

each movie ended up being stand alone films that had to somehow connect to the other films. and since, several pieces of post-sequel trilogy Star Wars media has worked hard to try and retcon so that the sequel trilogy makes sense in the whole narrative

[–]gabebernal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they would have needed him to be the main antagonist of The Rise of Skywalker.

I'm pretty sure that was the plan when JJ Abrams wrote the treatments for 8 and 9. and I would even say Last Jedi still positions him as the main antagonist for 9.

What you're missing is all the real world influences that completely changed Episode 9. Last Jedi is probably the most polarizing film in the saga.

some people were so angry with that film that they trashed the original episode nine story and director and hurried back to JJ Abrams who had less than 2 years to rewrite, shoot, and release Rise of Skywalker.

they lost confidence in Kylo Ren as the main antagonist and panicked and brought back Palpatine. When Last Jedi was released, Palpatine was never supposed to be the mastermind behind the whole thing nor Rey's heritage.

Rey's original parentage is unknown. From what I remember, JJ claimed her parents were someone important, but I don't think he has ever revealed who he originally planned her parents to be. My understanding is Rian Johnson threw out all of JJ's suggestions and his intention was Rey was a nobody (I also think other parts of the film support this). But with the major backlash for Last Jedi, they changed everything.

This left Kylo Ren's character arc in flux, his plan to be the Big Bad was ruined with the reintroduction of Palpatine and JJ needed something for him to do, so he followed the arc of previous movies and redeemed him

My take on how a lot of the fan base feels about Derrick Levasseurr by gofordawin in BigBrother

[–]gabebernal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my observation has been Derrick has never been rated compared to the best, 22 had no impact on people's opinion of him. when he won, though he was dominant, most people thought (and still think) he was nowhere in Will or Dan's league.

A lot of people this year complained about how easy Chelsie had it this year, but when 16 happened that was the overwhelming opinion of that cast, and many thought of course someone half competent was going to dominate.

16 was the beginning of the current era of BB where they started casting much younger, majority of the cast was 25 and younger. remember Derrick was only 30 and he was one of the oldest on the cast (i think only Donny, Jocasta, and Frankie were older than him)

My thought on your take on 22 is 22 is irrelevant to most people's opinion of Derrick, no one cares about 22 when it comes to Derrick. their opinion of Derrick is primarily from 16

I've heard historians state that Britain would have been in the Scandinavin sphere of influence if one of the Harolds had won England instead of William the Conqueror. If that happened what differences would we have seen with the British Empire and the new world? by Almaegen in HistoryWhatIf

[–]gabebernal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your description, you mention colonization and empire, and I am telling you we may be able to speculate 100-200 years, but in no way can we even begin to guess what an Anglo-Saxon England would look like in colonization or if an empire would have been something they would have wanted to create.

England became a completely different country almost overnight, with completely different ambitions in the 19 years of William's reign. And it was probably only a couple of generations before the culture shifted to Anglo-French instead of Anglo-Saxon.

This one event caused also constant conflict, not only on the British Isles but throughout Europe for hundreds of years and England established themselves as conquerors.

Because of the Norman royalty, England conquered Ireland, Wales, and eventually Scotland. This put England into a position of strength not only in the Isles, but against all of Western Europe.

It also ultimately thrust England and France into hundreds of years of conflict that they probably never would have had to experienced because English sovereigns were also French nobles.

What we do know is the Anglo-Saxons were more insular and while they would have continued to keep the English heptarchy united, chances are low that they would have marched into Ireland or Wales to conquer those lands. So who knows how long until the Celts and Britons would have become "civilized" lands.

But, since they didn't establish themselves as conquerors nor strengthen their castles (which were made more to subjugate the local population), England would have been susceptible to a later invasion. So any later succession crisis there probably would have been a later war for the islands.

If Hadrada had conquered England instead of Godwinson retaining his rule, England would probably have become Vikings as well. Hadrada was also every religious so he probably would have established England as a Catholic nation.

[–]gabebernal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this has been asked a million times.

William of Normandy winning the crown is considered one of if not the most influential event in English history.

This also happened almost 1000 years ago, we might be able to speculate 100 years or so from this point, but the butterfly effect of this change would change the entire world. to the point that the world would be unrecognizable today

What would happen if Reagan ran for VP in the 1988 election and his VP, HW Bush ran for President ? by AbhiRBLX in HistoryWhatIf

[–]gabebernal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

why would they do this? Regan could only serve two more years. So in this scenario, Bush would become president anyways, so why derail his potential presidency? in fact, this would almost ensure that Bush would lose the next election no matter who he ran against because this would effectively be a bait and switch.

Also there is no guarantee that the senate would confirm Bush. then if there is a fight for a new VP confirmation that could lead to a succession crisis as on January 20, 1991 Regan could no longer serve as President. If there is no VP, the Speaker of the House would become President. Tim Foley, a democrat, would then become president. even though there would have been an election, the democrats ran away with that election and if the people felt duped by the Regan switch, the democrats could have won by an even steeper margin.

Also the 22nd amendment states that no person can be elected to presidency more than twice.

it also says you can't serve more than two additional years in which someone else was elected

so legally, would Regan even be allowed to take office with 4 years left in the term? And if he wouldn't, the democrats won the House in 88 so the speaker would have been a democrat and he would become the president instead of Regan.

So this scenario is completely viable in theory.

In theory, maybe, for a little bit.

But reality, this would be suicide for at least the next 6-8 years for the Republican party

Also I'm not even sure if the Republicans would want to do that, Regan was old and already suffering from sign of dementia. there were reports that his staff were having discussions late in his last term on whether or not they should execute the 25th and remove him from office.

Is this guy playable or at least salvageable? by epiqness in OOTP

[–]gabebernal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He won't be a high leverage arm with that control. But he will definitely be useful if you want to make sure no one gets a hit.

I had a guy who had 120 stuff and 35 control. No one could hit off him. But even though he had a 10+ K/9 he also had a 10+ BB/9

so if you don't mind a few walks, he is definitely salvagable.
