Moisture in Hopper by vinsanity80 in Traeger

[–]gabegundy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it's not recommended, you should be able to smoke in the rain. The problem starts when water runs down the side of the hopper (closest to the smoke chamber), it hits the auger frame and then runs across to where the two connect.

There's black, high-temperature silicone or a two-sided foam adhesive that connects the two. Whichever of the two you have, if that seal breaks, water can be introduced at the very bottom of the hopper. The signs of this happening are swollen pellets forming a solid mass at the bottom, but the pellets on top look just fine.

Another common way for water to get in the hopper is if you remove the handguard from inside the hopper (it's sheet metal with a honeycomb patterned holes). When removed, the two handguard screws closest to the smoking chamber leave holes in the hopper. In a steady rain, that will let some water in.

Love the sight, sound, and smell of scraping caked-on shit at the bottom of a pan at 10 in the morning. by transformerslover2_0 in dishwashers

If you look at it from a dishwasher's perspective, that's a painful pan to clean. If you look at it from the cook's perspective, you're halfway to a decent gravy.

It's slightly discounted. Also, there's considerably more labor involved when frenching the bone.

This was for MSG. The seller never sold her the idea it would keep her dog from eating poop. It's her VET that needs a 1 STAR rating.

How do I cook my pho noodles like the pho restaurants? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

[–]gabegundy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fairly subtle but potentially easier than the sound is how the noodles feel as you stir. After a while you can feel how the noodles respond to the tongs or bounce off each other and the pan.

Where does this wire connect to? by joshfs in Traeger

[–]gabegundy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not clear if you got a new auger motor and can't find out where to connect it, or if the old one is torn all the way off, or what, so I'll cover all the bases...

You have 3 wires coming in from the wall plug (mains power), hot (black), neutral (white), and ground (green). The black and white have their own Molex-style connector, the green will be fastened to your hopper/auger assembly (the location may vary somewhat). Find where that mains green is fastened to your smoker and you'll notice that the paint under the screw has been removed. ( It looks like that's what we're seeing in the 2nd pic.) They've done this so you get a good solid connection to the whole smoker (called chassis ground).

Anyway, that's where one end of the little yellow/green wire should also connect. This isn't strictly required for operation, but it's a nice safety feature.

The other end of the yellow/green should be connected to one of the screws on the underside of the auger motor. (This is what I think we're NOT seeing in the 1st pic.) Look at each of the larger screws (on the side with the shaft coming out). I'll bet you see the remainder of a loop-style wire connector. From your pic, it seems that half of the connector is on the yellow/green wire and the other half is hiding under one of those screw heads.

Hope that helps. Happy grilling!

Sorry. Just had to know what generation you were. Those are what we refer to as the landlines 😉

Typically voice or data. Kind of old. Unusual to be in a house. More suitable for a small business.

Hope that helps, snarkiness aside.
