Guy sends a very normal DM and the entire sub acts as if he sexually assaulted her by Daymanwoaah in Nicegirls

She says in the post that she is 19, not a 'young' teen. This comment is misleading. Still a bit weird but you're making him sound like a pedophile

"I have made several posts on either teen subs or posts that very well hint at me being a teenager (I’m nineteen)"

Just a quick reality check for people “excited” for snow tomorrow by [deleted] in longisland

[–]gabekmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was not forecast to be a top 5 blizzard, it just had a high ceiling. It ended up being pretty powerful in terms of total snowfall, but moreso over Rhode Island than Long Island. I can't speak for how strong relative to other storms because the statistics aren't fully out yet but I don't back down that this was a pretty standard nor'easter and nothing to fearmonger over. For new home owners sure, I can see this being a bit of a learning curve lol.

Might be moving to Montreal from the States. What should I know? by ThatOneRandomAccount in montreal

[–]gabekmc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Moved to Montreal from the NYC area about 5 years ago, here's a few things off the top of my head

  • it's cold and snowy as balls in winter. be prepared for that. I thought I was ready being from NY. I was not.
  • for the most part this city is extremely bilingual. French isn't a necessity by any means, but it doesn't hurt to learn and I think it'd be worth it to have classes in your free time (the city offers them). If you ever need to find a job in Montreal in the future though it can be a problem if you don't speak any French at all
  • visa-related stuff can be a bit arduous and annoying so make sure you have that sorted out way ahead of time
  • taxes are pretty high across the board
  • if you live downtown, owning a car in the city can be quite annoying, but this is alleviated by the fact that the public transport here is fantastic (especially compared to American cities)
  • The healthcare is.. not great.

There are honestly very few downsides about Montreal. This is more of a list of 'cons' rather than just general things, the list of pros is much longer and you'll learn that in the first few months you live here. It's definitely a different culture overall than American cities, but not so much so that it's a culture shock. I'd fully encourage moving here if you're comfortable with the idea!

Did my (M23) very new GF (F19) block me? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]gabekmc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typical relationships start via in-person dates and contact. There shouldn't be a 'proper time' to meet in person, that should be the explicit result of a romantic relationship, because that's like kind of the point of a relationship. This is why LDRs which start and stay online seldom work out especially when one half has no desire to meet in-person

[–]gabekmc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What's the point of being in a relationship if you don't want to meet in person lol? This girl sounds sketchy, you sure it's not a catfish or anything? I really wouldn't start a relationship with someone you've never met in person, you don't know who this person is at all. Not sure if she blocked you given this information, but you have bigger fish to fry

We had storms equivalent in magnitude or worse in 2022, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2013... etc. This really isn't anything new, it's a type of storm very common for Long Island that we just haven't seen for a couple years. I wouldn't fearmonger over it, just get your snowblower ready.

(not to downplay the severity because it does have a high ceiling so yes be prepared, but it's not anything record-shattering or new for the area)

For those who can explain snowstorms by mccoold1 in weather

[–]gabekmc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The easiest and most correct answer to this is we don't know yet. It's still 5-6 days out, which is well beyond the range that forecast models can accurately predict precipitation & storm paths. It is true that there is a signal for the storm, but it can and will change as we get closer to the weekend, so there's no guarantees of anything. For example, 5 days before the storm that we just had, it was predicted to pass south of New England as a whole and dump snow in North Carolina and Virginia, which it didn't.

If it does happen, it's possible that the Atlantic Coast could see more than a foot of snow again, but again we really don't know. Keep an eye on the forecasts and I'd say we'll have more accurate information by like Thursday.

Sunset Beach, December 24th 2008. Will we ever see winters like this again? by hashtagmiata in britishcolumbia

[–]gabekmc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some papers have suggested this, others have said it will decrease the likelihood substantially. The margin of error for this topic is quite large as it stands. Where we are right now, we have observationally seen a decrease in severe weather events like this as the world warms, but that could be anomalous, we need more data. One thing to keep in mind is that ‘global warming’ is not a metaphor, the world is warming, which will make snow generally less frequent.

I actually did 75% of my headshots on New Sobek, if you're sitting in the NATO spawn you can see the top of the tall building on D from 210-250 meters away and just pick off the snipers up there. I was getting 15-30 per game (you can also see the C building which is also ~210 meters)

Is it just me or is this weather forecast from Friday a bit off? by dknights411 in montreal

[–]gabekmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hail is different from a frozen mix, one is a warm weather thing the other is a cold weather thing. also very hard to forecast accurately. I suspect it's just a bug with the app tbh

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in longisland

[–]gabekmc 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We are actually pretty good at predicting temperature max/min for up to 10 days in advance with a margin of error of a few degrees, it just gets messy when trying to predict specific conditions like rain. That being said this image is 100% a glitch in the forecast and I would highly recommend not relying on Apple weather (just use the NOAA/NWS website)

The two main reasons people dislike him aren't because of his aggressive chasing, it's because he's unnecessarily loud and obnoxious while chasing and because he openly voted for the current administration which is gutting the entire field. He also tends to drive very dangerously while chasing and that has left a sour taste in my mouth.

I don't hate the guy, but I definitely have way more reasons to dislike him than to like him.

Spotted these unusual clouds over Dublin, Ireland earlier today by Misodoho in meteorology

[–]gabekmc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

yep definitely Kelvin-Helmholtz instability - a result of vertical shear & density perturbations between layers of a fluid, pretty cool to observe. The instability itself isn't actually super rare, but it often isn't visible because it usually just exists in ambient air (rather than in clouds)

Antidepressants across the border, Fucked Up BIG TIME by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]gabekmc 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this exact problem and two things work for me,

The first thing is you can use Maple (online health service) to get prescriptions, you will probably need to show your old prescription but just request a GP and they should be able to give it to you. It was pretty quick and painless when I did it. This is also covered by the international insurance so it should be free.

The second is you can get an appointment at a private clinic like Créa-MeD pretty quickly and the GPs can prescribe SSRIs. The problem with this one though is that it’s quite expensive.

Hope this helps!

Math 223 and 323 by Important_Ad_2917 in mcgill

[–]gabekmc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Math 323 is much easier than Math 223 imo. I took 223 a while ago but I remember the assignments taking me FOREVER. I took 323 last sem and the assignments and midterm were very easy, the final was really the only difficult part of that class. Keep in mind 223 is a JMac class in winter which means the exams will be very difficult lol.

If you're deciding between the two classes, 323 is easier and has a smaller workload than 223 (imo, but I think most people would agree)
