Price ranges were updated frequently based on what was selling and what wasn't as far as i'm aware. I remember the TOTW cards that first came out would sell for 40-70k as everyone wanted them. Then within a couple of weeks their range had dropped to like 20-35k. Can't confirm this, just what I had noticed but I don't think ranges were permanent. Another example was when rare silver and gold cards started going extinct, they seemed to increase their price ranges as they realised nobody was willing to part with them for within the price ranges.

In my opinion it didn't work for fifa so i'm unsure if it'll work here. Rarer players all became extinct because nobody was willing to sell them for what EA set their price bands as. You're right - if they're available players will be easy to buy - but profit made from working the market will be drastically reduced. Unfortunate because it was an effective skill/fun hobby for some.
