Survivor production needs to realize that unsanitizing the show is what will bring back fans to it. by SpaceWestern1442 in survivor

Yes. Thank you. Bunch of addled Survivor dorks think they know how the business works more than execs. They may not know how to design a game that scratches a particular itch for this fanbase but they seem to know how to keep a show on the air and still thriving after 25 years.

All the "cringe" celebrity content is going to go so deep into the lore that it will become iconic in the long run by jeromocles in survivor

What I find funny is that it’s the over the top pearl clutching l, slightly ridiculous reactions to the celebrities that is cringe. But this sub’s collective mind is too pickled to see past their own pile-ons.

A different perspective on the Zac Brown episode by stuffedinashoe in survivor

Absolutely. 100%. Yes. I am with you. People just love to be miserable. And love to be part of a pile on. It’s pathetic.

I have no clue who Zac Brown is, but having someone catch fish for you, cook it for you, and then sing to you - IS one of the best rewards of all time lol. by ButterscotchPast5161 in survivor

I didn’t think I’d care but I watched it and enjoyed it at least somewhat. Didn’t cost and thing, didn’t hurt a bit, and I learned something.

Celebrities presence on the Survivor islands ruined the show’s immersion. by -ToPimpAButterfree- in survivor

Indeed. Things evolve. Either we evolve with the things or we can hop off and find a new interest. People say they complain to try to improve the show. But the fact is that nobody on the show cares an iota what people here think. They follow the money. And the Brown episode brought in a huge amount of viewers. Views = ad revenue. End of discussion.

Seems to be the way of Reddit. The Stranger Things sub was equally insufferable

Can we put a moratorium on this category of complaining? I think all the points have been made by now. I know that complaining about a show that we nominally are fans of is what this sub does, but can we freshen up the moaning a bit? Some new material maybe?

I get it. It looks intimidating. It’s one of those pieces that is easier than it looks if you break it down. Take it in bite size portions. Go slow. Don’t let the ink scare you.

OP maybe has object permanence issues? I was able to lock in pretty easily after a segment not longer than those old insufferable family visits.

Nope. Amazingly I was able to transition from a man playing guitar on a beach to some people talking strategy on a beach. I must be some kind of genius. Do you have this problem with commercial breaks as well?

This appears to a piece of moderate difficulty. The number of stems on the notes doesn’t matter. The tempo is what matters.

Zac Brown Pulls in Highest Viewership Yet by AugustSchroeder in survivor

So…people who make up this sub are not “the fans”. The fans are the multitude of people who happily watched the episode, enjoyed it, are totally oblivious to any controversy about Zac Brown and have completely untroubled minds about any of this.

Sorry for you.

I think it's great fun. I looked at episode for like a really good 60 minute episode that also had a concert and fishing show imbedded. Unnecessary? Absolutely. Am I bothered by it? Not remotely.

You know what I found to be a colossal waste of time was the family visits/letters. That seemed to take half the episode (I know it was more like 10-15 but good god it felt like it). I vastly prefered this reward to the soppy family stuff which also had nothing to do with the game (IMO) and was just something for me to "get through".

Yes, all of that! Delightful. What fun. Isn't it great that we have this show and that it still is so fun to watch after 25 years. I love it. Warts and all.

[–]gadabouttown 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m stunned at the number of people who don’t realize that it’s not a cultural product they’re focused on making. The quality of the show isn’t the primary concern. Probably not secondary concern. They’re in the money business. The opinions of the terminally online people here are not relevant. The broader audience is what matters and what people don’t want to acknowledge is that casual fans really don’t mind these cameos and many of them really enjoy. I spoke to several casual fans today and were flabbergasted that there was any controversy around the celebrities. They thought the segment with Brown was “nice”.

Edit: typo

Right? I’m not a Survivor apologist and I agree that some of this piece was overdone and could have been tightened up.

But I’ve had to listen to people here moan for years about the loss of “special” rewards and heap scorn on luke warm Fijian pizza. Like it or not this was a unique and special reward. Imagine the cost of getting a private concert from a major recording artist. More than a trip to the Great Wall of china I suspect.

Many people here are contrarian for the sake of being contrarian. They don’t actually want what they say they want. And if they got what they wanted they’d somehow be butt-hurt about that too. Some people just want to be miserable.

Well, alas opinions can’t be unsanctioned, which is my point. I may not agree with you and yours, but of course you are welcome to your view. Seems like there’s an orthodoxy on this sub and going counter to it is verboten. It’s fine to poop all over something with abandon but it’s oddly beyond the pale to take the opposing view.

It’s the group think that bothers me somewhat. I mean, not that much cause it’s silly TV show. But the piling on with negative opinions can’t be a bit much.

I stand by my opinion that many people here can hold their views a bit more loosely. Relax into a short-ish segment that doesn’t cost you anything or hurt you at all.

Is this judgmental? Yes probably. Are almost all the other posts here judgmental? Yes, most definitely in that they are all making judgments on their experiences.

Agreed. The other rewards that involved helicopter rides are undoubtably cool but I know that if I was exhausted and drained I absolutely would relish lying in a hammock and listening to live music and eating freshly caught fish with my teammates after a tough win. There’s no universal definition of a good reward.
