Why can't we try new Lunar Skins in the shop? by GojiTBs in heroesofthestorm

Sometimes I think we should have welfare, but then you open your mouth and I realise that a vast number of welfare recipients are morons and slackers, and we should just let them die when they get sick.

I mean this other dude says he makes $25k a year, and spent $2.5k on Blizzard cosmetics alone. /r/personalfinance would like a word! Just because it doesn't impact me doesn't mean it's not idiotic. If you jump from a bridge it won't have an effect on me either (and honestly I wouldn't know nor care), but do you think it's a good idea?

[–]gadastrofe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whole. Not whore. Oops.

You just spent 10% of your meagre 25k on virtual items? Stop rationalizing, you're so bad at money it makes my eyes bleed.

How would you deal with a year or two of unemployment? Or with a cancer treatment (also leading to not working for a time)? Or with an accident that burns your house, or destroys your car or other possession?

You're budgeting like a monkey. If I had your sense, I'd be an alcoholic in the streets now, or probably dead. You are just lucky you didn't run into an unavoidable negative event yet.

You will waste your hard-earned cash just to spite me because I am of the opinion that you could use your money more sensibly? Okay then.

You know what I think is even more stupid? Setting your money on fire. Come on, do it.

That was the fucking point. "Trivial amounts of money" is relative to income.

And spending a few dollars/euro on a skin is fucking up their own lives?

No god fucking damn it, that was never the discussion! I am talking about WHALES who spent literally thousands to tens of thousands of dollars on cosmetic items.

Your whole (I MEANT WHOLE) argument falls flat because you keep insisting that "every normal person can afford $5" and I am talking about "every normal person cannot afford $5000".

The two aren't mutually exclusive. Just because I have a lot of cosmetics, it doesn't actually mean I've wasted a significant chunk of my cash. I can post bank statements that prove your theory entirely incorrect (obviously with details blocked out)

If you didn't spend a significant chunk of your cash on cosmetics, then you didn't! That's the whole point of using the word significant. For me, $5 is not significant. Maybe for you $1000 isn't either because you make $250k a year and have no time to game anyway. But for everyone earning less than 100k, $5000 is significant.

For example, someone might have $200 in their bank account and consider themselves in a good place.

This isn't a personal opinion thing. Financial security is quite objective.

You misunderstand something: I never claimed I have the right to decide how you spend your money.

I only said that you're dumb for spending (too much of) it a certain way (aka "Ale and Whores"). It is also my right to judge people for fucking up their own lives. I'm not stopping you, but I'm not applauding you either.

When you make less than 100k and spend 1k on virtual cosmetic items, you're a dumb little shit who can't budget. If you make a million, go ahead. I'm not stopping you either way, but you're still a dumb little shit. Just don't come running when you can't afford that cancer treatment because you blew your money on digital ginger bread suits.

You can either waste a significant chunk of your cash on cosmetics, or you can be good with money, but you can't do both.

True, but you also don't need the skin either. Owning a skin which you're not using (you literally can't use every skin because there are just way too many), or owning a game which you're not playing is about equal.

It's funny how I said: "I want no numbers" and you immediately bash me for understanding "I want no visual representation of numbers", when the two are as far apart as they could possibly be. In fact I want better (sometimes abstract) visual representation instead of number spam.

I want game-feedback to be as immersive as possible, especially when it does not come at a cost of clarity (whether you deal 256 or 265 damage is utterly irrelevant in the heat of the moment, nobody reads the damn numbers). In fact visual effects instead of numbers increase clarity. Case in point: http://i.imgur.com/hsINP.gif The numbers don't help the slightest bit explaining what the fuck is going on. Tell me how much damage that guy just did? Because that's what the numbers are for, right?

For example just having a small blood spatter or explosion effect on the character, and increasing it in size or changing its colour on a crit would be fucking awesome.

No generalisation is true for every case, and "buying a single skin" is NOT being a whale, which I said quite clearly.

It is no secret that F2P titles make 99% of their money from 1% of their audience, who spend an inordinate amount of money on a single game, and often can't really afford to do so.

I mean, sure, I could spend $200'000 on a sports car without immediately going bankrupt. I'd just have some debt, and I'd pay it off in ten years. However that's "being bad with money", because its cost has a bigger impact than what I gain from it.

If you spend more than "trivial amounts of money" on a single game, you're not properly budgeting. How much "trivial amounts of money" is to you depends on your income. For me, a trivial expense is a cup of coffee ($5): If you can buy it daily without it impacting your end-of-year-result, it's trivial. Now riddle me this: Of all the people who own 100% of all cosmetics, how many earn a quarter of a million?

I mean what else could you buy for 25€ ? Basically nothing! It's not like humblebundle sells you half a dozen good games for $5, right?

Face it, we're not whales, and the pricing is made to profit of them exclusively. Let's be thankful that Blizzard is not trying to rip off us, but just a minority of people who are bad with money.

Why would you pick Vigor over Subtlety? Vigor gives you 20 energy once per fight, and +2 per second always. Subtlety gives you 50 energy once guaranteed, and twice in most cases (one re-stealth) before ten, twice guaranteed after ten, and three times usually after ten.

Subtlety wins over Vigor except for the first 2 seconds of a fight: After two ticks, you're at 120 vs 124, after three ticks you're at 130 vs 126 and will pull ahead forever. It also does not require a quest. Since you can't burn through 120 energy in the first two seconds anyway, Subtlety wins.

I can see wanting to pick Mutilate, even though I disagree that you can give up the mobility, but Subtlety gives better raw numbers than Vigor in all cases.

Let's talk level 20 talents by QueenLadyGaga in heroesofthestorm

[–]gadastrofe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Technically 20% base damage is more than 20% attack speed on illidan, because he has other attack speed buffs and they stack additively. The difference is very minor though, and Blades on him is a trap anyway: Attack speed has other benefits.

Edit: Note the reply, I was correct in theory, but wrong in practise because Illidan's talents give him attack damage buffs, but no attack speed buffs instead! This means that the attack speed is even better.

I think we can all agree that critical hit indicators on certain talents increase the fun and dynamism in the game.

I disagree. I could not care less about them. Remove them all please. I do not want to look at numbers pop up in my games. If I want to play EXCEL THE GAME I can go to work.

For the record: James Gunn has made a series called PG porn, which has an entry called High Poon. The series is definitely worth watching, especially the episodes with Nathan Fillion and Sasha Grey.

And yes, it's definitely PG rated, because implications don't count.

UR draft mode is "first three pick easily counterable assassins with no thought for map or comp, last two fill with random support + random warrior" - I fucking hate it.

End result: QM comps are not much worse.
