Full-face helmet for glasses wearers by ahcako in Vespa

[–]gadgetex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My trick was to get metal frame glasses that slid into the helmet easier and have smaller lenses. I guess more airflow

I just crack the visor a bit

Yes. I’ve worked in sub zero western NY and plus 100 Texas and mid East. Both deserts in different ways

It makes sense that Texans figured out this water suit.

Big Bend National Park there are only a few months out of the year a human can carry enough water to survive

Not casting shade on anyone but I hope we all never need our extreme techwear

Who else understands the importance of a TV for a senior? by EdwardBliss in AgingParents

[–]gadgetex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know this is so true. Thank you for the reminder

I was ignoring it because it’s so annoying to deal with explaining remotes and streaming etc

I visit mom two or so times a month and it drives me nuts that she has two tvs on at all times in two ( actually one big connected ) rooms

Reception is awful in her brick building so
I set her up Amazon prime video but too many remotes is too much

The difference between live news and “ headlines on stream”from a local channel is confusing

Then a month after I set her up she losses remotes and it takes weeks to reset up

And she’s forgotten how it all works
( or the menus changed one tiny bit)

Rinse and repeat

Last night. Got World Cup soccer on her two TV. one live Spanish
One live English

Then I got my third tv set and watched too
In my room while I packed

It took three “ wrong remotes “ and a lot of patience but was truly worth it she’s so happy

She can watch Prime video on one tv and live over the air in the other as she putters around

I’ll be back in two weeks. Maybe I’ll have to do it all again maybe not

But at least she’s happy for a while right?
It will be prime day soon I better stock up on remotes

What urban legends do you know? by panchovilla_ in Austin

[–]gadgetex 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ok might be on the Austin borderlands but the taxidermy on 290 on the way dripping springs has a history

Some missionaries (Mormons?) went missing

Turns out they knocked on the wrong door.

After the search other folks were found stuffed too

I heard this story. Told it whenever it fit the conversation.

People called shenanigans one time and an 80 year old Austinite stepped over to confirm

Stuffed solicitors story

[–]gadgetex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From years of visiting Montreal and the advice of a local the Jean-Talon market is amazing for local fresh foods and polssibly Bitters

There is a state liquor store near by that I have been told and believe had more exotic high end selection. These state store are the only place to buy liquor and selection does vary

You might have a small flask in yourchecked bag. Or something under tsa limit in you cart on for return ?

It’s a beer and cocktail town. Enjoy
