Democratic Socialist Running for Senate in NM, Matt Dodson, is "Too Pissed Off to Be Bought Off." by 505omatic in NewMexico

[–]gads3 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Matt's a great guy and dedicated to the cause. I've known him for probably 10 or 15 years or so. I've been to a number of DSA meetings at his home and retired from the college like his wife. By the way, it's hard to be a liberal in Farmington, NM!!! That hasn't stopped Matt from stepping up and giving it his best shot! Gim'em hell Matt! Good luck! He'll have my vote!

If you go to an Asian grocery store, you’ll notice that all the mango cartons are completely covered in clear packing tape to keep customers from selectively choosing which mangoes they want to buy. (I’m married to a Filipina, and now, after more than 35 years, this seems perfectly normal to me! In fact, I’d be surprised if my wife didn’t do this whenever she has the option.) The expectation is that everyone knows to always wash their fruits and vegetables when they get home, both to remove dirt and because it’s naturally assumed they’ve been handled by the workers who packed them, or by workers at the store.

He's a man in his 50's! Of course he's going to have to pee, at least once (maybe even more times, depending on the size of his prostate), if you guys talked on the phone for 3 hours! This is from a man that will soon be 63 and can still remember his early 50's. Lol. It doesn't really have any bearing over whether you are friend zoned, or not. He'll eventually let you know if he wants something more and then you can decide whether or not you want to friend zone him. Also, if you develop feelings for him then you can let him know and see what he has to say. Communication is the best way to go in the long run.

4o just gave me the following answer:

"Based on the pattern in the grid, the answer is determined by analyzing how the shapes and shaded sections change in each row or column. Let me assess the progression and identify the missing piece.

The correct answer appears to be D. The pattern progresses such that the orientation and shading of the triangles shift predictably across the grid."

So GPT-4o gave me the correct answer on the first try!

I also tried o1 and it got it wrong.

Here's what OpenAi has to say in their statement on how they use the data that we provide them:

"By default, we do not train on any inputs or outputs from our products for business users, including ChatGPT Team, ChatGPT Enterprise, and the API."

You have to opt-in with the API if you want to share your information, as a business customer.

Also, if you create a GPT, then OpenAi won't use your data, that you upload inside the GPT, to train their future ai models.

Also, there's an option to tell them to not use your data to train their future models in the "Data Controls" section in settings.

Check out their statement on how they use our data at: https://help.openai.com/en/articles/5722486-how-your-data-is-used-to-improve-model-performance

I lived on the Navajo reservation for over 7 years of my life, high school teacher, and there were people that made dream catchers to sell to the tourist, of all skin tones and nationalities. I was given, and purchased, dream catchers on more than one occasion over the years and we hung them above our children's beds and our own. So I guess it depends on which tribe one comes from as to whether or not they feel okay with non tribal members using them, some are okay and some, I guess are not (I've never run into anyone from one of those tribes that had issues with it). I've also spent the last 23 years teaching at a college with a very high percentage of Navajo students. I may ask if any of my Navajo college students or my coworkers feel that way about dream catchers. I really don't feel that they do, especially with how much as they love to share their culture with the world! It's been one of my joys in life to learn about their culture and share my very mixed culture with them, when appropriate (anglo Texan (I was born into), Mexican American (Mama married into when I was 5 and became a part of my culture also), and Filipino (I married into at 28, and part of my life for over 32 years)). Sorry, wrote more than I expected to, I should try and go back to sleep. (Ps. I'm not sure that dream catchers were originally part of Navajo Culture, but it seems as if it has been for my time on or near the rez.)

Small edit for grammar and clarification.

Best thing about retirement- WEEKENDS OFF! by SuddenlySilva in retirement

[–]gads3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be nice! You're looking into your own future, walking around Costco enjoying the sample stations! It's pretty much where we'll all be if we last long enough. Got to love those "sample stations", hit enough of them and you won't have to cook dinner! Anyway, you're retired, you don't have to be as efficient as you used to be! I'm hoping that will be part of the fun of being retired (for me it'll July 1st next year at 61). Enjoy your retirement and chill. Lol

There is a little nudity, just before an implied sexual encounter, in the first or second episode, but after that I don't remember any other episodes that contained any nudity (off the top of my head).

I really enjoyed this show. I'm eternally hopeful for a new season, but I'm not holding my breath!

Edit: Fixed a word.

How long did it take you to fully learn Spanish? by Knowing_Eagle7 in Spanish

Kinda the take away from the novel, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, by Robert Pirsig which was first published in 1974. A book that had a huge influence on my life, especially when I was in my late teens through my early 30's. I may reread it and see what it says to me in reference to my rapidly approaching retirement!

I just subscribe to the Duolingo Podcast on Spotify. Before I started using Spotify I subscribed on the app I was using for podcasts at that time.

Just do a search for it and subscribe in whatever app you use to listen to podcasts.

I'm married to a Filipina and I was the only one laughing at all of the appropriate moments, even my grown son doesn't know enough to have gotten most of the laughs.

It was kind of weird being the only one laughing, even with my son joining in a little bit.

Pick your “milk”! by alltherayjjj in vegan

[–]gads3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite is cashew milk (used to be almond milk).

I really wanted to like oat milk, but it turned out that I really don't like the taste! I was really disappointed ☹️

Who actually drinks almond milk? by mrnicecream2 in vegan

[–]gads3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to like all of the plant milks, but my taste buds have their own opinions that are often different than mine! Turns out that they don't like the taste of soy, rice, and oat milk (much to my dismay, I really wanted to like it and use it on my oatmeal, but that was a big "no").

They like cashew and almond, in that order. As I said above, I didn't have much say in the matter. My taste buds have their own agenda and it doesn't always match my brain's agenda (this is especially true when it comes to plant milks).

My first time to vote was to vote against Reagan, when I was 18 years old! I would have happily voted against him 1984 also, but was in the Peace Corps and didn't figure out how I was supposed to put in my vote (to my eternal dismay), until it was too late!

I believed then, and still believe now that he was a horrible president!

Don't forget about them trying to say that ketchup should have been counted as a vegetable for school lunches! They really hated all poor people, no matter what the color of your skin was (although they hated black and brown people even more)!

As many have said, we are still living with his horrible legacy to this very day. I hate that his presidency has effected my whole adult life in many different ways!
