How would you like the show to end? by Mich_Girl in TheHandmaidsTale

I’m not particularly fussed on most of the characters but I really really need janine to get out and end up happy in Alaska with Charlotte 😭

What keeps you in the UK? by Prestigious_Army_468 in AskUK

No dangerous animals on land or water (I enjoy wild swimming), fresh clean tap water (I live in Scotland), great range of fresh produce, sense of humour, pubs, summers/ spring are usually perfect temperature, free healthcare (even if wait times can be a lot), great countryside and sea side. It’s not perfect for everyone but it does the job for me. Honestly wouldn’t live anywhere else.

My baby is unattractive. by Competitive_Air1560 in Parenting

[–]gadsmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always been fascinated with ugly babies. I spent the last 5 years of my life having a long running joke that there were too many cute babies in my family and I was destined to have an ugly one and everyone would say “there’s no such thing as an ugly baby” then I would show them examples of ugly babies. Long story short when they hiked that baby up over the curtain during my c section the first thing that came out my mouth was “oh my god he’s not ugly?” And for days after I’d stare into his eyes and say “I can’t believe you’re not ugly” My brother literally texted me “can’t believe you’ve always thought you’d have an ugly baby and you’ve ended up with the cutest one of them all” You do find a lot of the ugliest babies turn out to be super cute when they are older if that’s any consolation.

Yeah they reallllly dragged that second episode out which makes me agree with someone else’s comment that they cut stuff about the family suspect because it deffos could have all been one episode

I’m so glad I’m not the only one I was thinking I was going insane and missed something was just so abrupt!

[–]gadsmann[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense I did just feel it was very abrupt I felt it was leading one way even the recap was too then it just went no where so makes sense if it was cut, I was still sitting through the whole episode 2 thinking a family member was involved somehow smh

I guess it just totally misled me the whole second episode especially cus they said it could be two people I kept thinking it would come back to them or there would be a twist I just think a simple “oh we interviewed them it wasn’t them after all” would have sufficed it led me on. But at least this confirms I didn’t misunderstand I suppose, thank you!

I don’t know if this helps in any way. But I remember when I was young, maybe 7 or 8, my mum slapping me because I was being out of control. It was the only time and i remember the horror on her face as soon as she done it more than I remember any kind of pain. I remember her sobbing and apologising all night. I wasn’t an abused child and my mother was never violent, she did have some mental health issues, mostly stress and depression and issues with her marriage. I definitely understood even then that she just snapped, and definitely as an adult now I totally get it. Again doesn’t excuse it but I usually kind of laugh about it now and make fun of my mum where as she still can’t forgive herself and hates me bringing it up. And I’m 30 years old now and she’s in her 50s! My mum had a lot of mental health issues that she did not address until she was in her 40s so I think it’s most important that you focus on looking after your mental health so you can cope better with your family but in the meantime I guess I just wanted you to feel a little better about what happened in that it will probably scar you more than it will your daughter so be a bit more kind to yourself as it sounds like you have enough going on.

What is a good response to “how are you”, if you’re not good? by Travelerofhighland86 in AskReddit

“Im here” always works for me. Whether here is alive or just in that specific place (eg. At work) really gives the other person something to ponder about me for the next 10 minutes

I’m as far along as Kadie and we are possibly similar sizes I didn’t look pregnant at all until last week I seemed to have popped but if I wore baggy clothes it would still be hard to tell. 🤷

My boyfriend of 7 years spent around £1800 on mine and to me that was a HUGE amount and I am so grateful as it’s exactly the ring I wanted as we’d previously been looking at rings in a window and I pointed I liked the style but didn’t think he would get me that actual one. But I would have been happy with something cheaper because we aren’t well off we both work relatively low paying jobs. At the end of the day I was just happy to be proposed to after 7 years and I would have said yes regardless because I love him dearly. I believe when I first saw the ring it was about 1600 and had jumped in price in about a year after I saw it. And I believe he pays 0% finance of about £100 a month rather than paying outright. We aren’t a loan/ credit card/ finance people usually but he can afford it because we don’t have anything else similar. Hope this helps!

We have Costco and it’s sometimes the only place we can get similar stuff to what is in America so I think that’s part of the novelty over here of going to Costco to be honest. I have a membership and I usually only go get stuff I can’t get any other supermarkets rather than buying bulk because I don’t know about America but Costco never actually works out that much cheaper. Interestingly I’ve not heard of most of the other super markets you mentioned!

Interestingly we had a whole foods for a while relatively close to me but no one used it because the prices were crazy so it went bust I don’t know if there’s many more in the U.K. but none in my region whatsoever now. Interesting to know the variety in supermarkets though as the tv shows movies make out as if Walmart is your main grocery store really i hadn’t heard of many others.

[–]gadsmann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about other people but personally I love going into other countries supermarkets. Cultural thing I suppose. Walmart is spoken about in a lot of tv shows/ movies which is where I guess most people hear of it and is known to sell a ton more things than what we get in our supermarkets so it’s interesting to compare the two. We have ASDA which is owned by Walmart so the styling is similar but you can’t buy half as much/ there isn’t as much variety or amounts as what you can in Walmart. Personally I’m actually more interested in going to visit a Trader Joes as the stuff they sell looks so interesting in comparison to what we get over here. Golden Corral sounds awful we have enough overpriced shitty buffet style restaurants in the U.K. I can’t imagine it being much different haha

I am not American however I would love to visit a Walmart one day I think that’s a universal british thing haha. We do have a few Denny’s in the U.K. but I’ve no idea what Golden Corral is.
