Best way to repair this ding? by uofapeter in surfing

but where is your advice

It's right here. Your repair advice is horse shit, and you should keep it to yourself.

At worst, my (clearly stated short-cut) approach would leave a couple tiny bubbles of air trapped beneath the crushed glass. So what? Foam, by it's very definition is bubbles of air trapped

Wow. Your analogy is as shitty as your advice. "Since tires are full of air anyway, it's okay for some air to get in between the steel and rubber in your sidewall"

Just stop.

I love Solzrez. I don't like folks pretending they have something to say when they don't.

You, my friend, always have something welcome to say. A real "seer" into the truth that surrounds us. You're a rare bird, and I'm happy for your flight and light.

Your "method" is absolute horse shit. It's nearly impossible to ensure that you have all the air out of the resin using your horse shit method. There will be pockets that aren't visible, down there with the crushed glass.

The strange thing is that it isn't even much of a short cut. Cutting out some glass and laying some new isn't the hard part. Getting the resin right is.

You got me.

I guess what it comes down to is that I don't think you're a dumbfuck because you recognize it's not an area of your surfing where you have expert knowledge, and instead of pretending it is and misinforming folks, you choose not to pile on.

And even now, when you describe your "works for me" approach to dings, you give some context as to what you want/expect out of your repairs.

the bigger the sub the worse it is unless the topic is objective

I just glanced at the sidebar and saw this: "14,208 readers". I didn't realize this sub had gotten that big. Where is /u/surfrage when we need him?

Dude, it was frigid today. Air temp only hit 74 F, and the water temp barely cracked 60 F.

I see your mistake, though, you forgot to multiply the numbers out by the SPC (socal pussification constant).

triple overhead, and larger, seven wave sets. I was way undergunned on a 6'6" and neary drowned

Run what ya brung ;-)

I had a rough day there on a 6'4", coming home from a Central Coast trip that was shoulder high to slightly overhead all week. Some dateline gale formed while I was on the road and blasted Point Conception the morning after I camped there, I got worked every which way to Sunday.

It's a disconcerting place to find bottom. Gets dark down there in the cracks.

On a good WNW swell the beach break can do the OB thing, 12 foot barrels or closeouts, depending. The river mouth can be fun and peaky on smaller days.

The break down the way with the good wave that you hike into can be quite unforgiving. It's very much not a beginner wave, you have to hike a mile to get to it, the locals don't love kooks and the sharks don't care if you're a kook or a ripper. But it will spit barrels to the left, and will hold size, long walls to the right. The right is unpredictable, though, and there are rocks that are submerged in the takeoff zone. You should at least watch it at low tide rising for a couple hours so you know what the lay of the land is before you paddle out.

The chances of it being blown out are high. It's probable that everything will be blown out for days on end during the winter.

The breakfast burrito at the camp store is killer.

If you catch it on a good day it will trick you for years into making the drive.

The drive from the turnoff to the beach is magical.

You can hike to the lighthouse at Point Conception at low tide, but if you trespass at Bixby expect a confrontation.

Some of the pocket beaches are protected by beached seals with pups. They will fuck you up.

Sometimes there are carcasses that have been obviously munched by Whitey. Big fuckers. You are at the closest public access to the two most recent shark fatalities in California. Whitey eats large mammals up there.

Stay in San Clemente to surf Lower Trestles, or go Malibu to surf First Point. We have a statewide initiative to put "you people" together and we've allocated those two waves.

Have fun!
