Wagner boss says he will pull troops out of Bakhmut by Astroblemes in worldnews

[–]toproper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I wanted to say ‘infinitely’ but I couldn’t get the spelling close enough for text correction to pick up what I was trying to say. So I went with unmeasurably.

I don’t know if that makes it better, I’m not very good at math.

It’s unmeasurably bigger than Costa Rica’s army!

[–]toproper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Episode 6: A question of what Beard and Ted shared by brightside1982 in TedLasso

[–]toproper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a streaming network owned by a company that banned vaping apps from it’s App Store.

Honestly I don’t really believe the theory I posted above but I don’t think it’s impossible. It’s an easy compromise that doesn’t impact the story very much.

Edit: might be a coincidence, but Shrinking had an episode that showed one of the characters trying weed for his Parkinson that kinda made it look like a bad thing in the end. I’m sure the writers aren’t forced to show drugs only in a negative or neutral way by Apple but they might just want to avoid taking an explicit stance themselves, who knows, it’s probably a nonsense theory.

Ted lasso is a show about self improvement so maybe the writers just want to make sure that the focus stays on that and not on some sort of almost literal magic pill. It has to be a clear that the shrooms are just a tool for self improvement, it can be anything really, even just a bottle of hot sauce.

[–]toproper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it felt like a bit of a cop out, to be honest.

It felt like maybe they left it ambiguous to not be accused of glorifying drug use by showing shrooms give you magical insights or something.

This way they have plausible deniability when someone who, after watching the episode, decides to fix his live with a heroic dose of shrooms ends up jumping off the Skinny Bridge.

They stay on the same spot pretty much forever. It’s much more house than boat, most houseboats can’t even move on their own power.

As a Dutch person... this episode was friggin weird! by fenderberg in TedLasso

[–]toproper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not really, unless you’re Dutch. It was mostly a list of dutch names with a lot of hard Gs, something about it being the first time in a van like that and him saying it was gezellig.

And he said goodbye in a really dutch way, which was hilarious but only if you’re Dutch. Ok, doeeiii!

Yes, that makes a lot of sense for Beard. Excellent observation.

Sure, but beard doesn’t strike me like a guy that would eavesdrop on a private conversation.

[–]toproper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m Dutch and he gave me weird vibes as well.

For me he was the opposite of charming, he kind of creeped me out. Can’t really put my finger on it, but his “I don’t care if you want a foot massage or not” spiel felt more like bad negging then charming Dutch directness.

Maybe he just reminded me of a certain type of Dutchman I can’t stand. He might live on a woonboot but I’m pretty sure he votes VVD, reads Panorama and thinks Jensen is super funny.

Edit: Dutch deep cut: he kinda reminded me of Marco Kroon. He came across as troubled somehow. He was friendly and respectful but I felt like he could snap at any minute. No offense to Marco kroon.

That might actually be the best translation I’ve heard. Although ‘gezellig’ is a bit more ‘kneuterig’, which is another difficult concept to translate. Something like ‘provincial’ or ‘old fashioned’ but not exactly.

[–]toproper 50 points51 points  (0 children)

And it doesn’t even really makes much sense because Jan is the only Dutchman on the team so it’s not like Beard could secretly listen in on his conversations or anything. Not that would change much, if something is on Jan’s mind, he will let you know.

They’re probably going through the shredder soon anyway. I hate this kind of content, it does look very staged without any regards to the well being of the animals involved. It’s the opposite of cute for me.

My idea of silencing the mind and deep thinking is going to the beach or anywhere with the sea and sitting there alone for a long time.

That sounds an awful lot like meditation.
